Why does Spotify keeps playing after closing the app?

Why does Spotify keeps playing after closing the app?

My app won't stop playing the music when I close it. I have to manually force stop the app and this just makes the app glitch and break even more! Nothing in my phone or app settings fixes anything.

I've done a clean reinstall of the app,

restarted my phone,

deleted cache and data from Spotify,

Disabled background listening in battery saver settings,

restarted my phone,

Nothing works.

I can barely use this app, this problem on top of the problems with ads, problems with playback and problems with everything. This app needs serious work.

Hi there @TheMadMethod,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help you get the app working as expected again.

This is quite odd and we haven't seen similar reports about such behaviour recently. Can you let us know what device you're using and what Android version it's on? When exactly did this start happening? Did it coincide with an update to Spotify or the OS?

As an additional suggestion, if you have any third party apps that manage cache and/or battery, consider disabling those as they may be interfering with the Spotify app in some strange way, thus causing this issue.

Let us know how it goes.

REVVL 6x PRO 5G using Android 14.

I can't be sure exactly how long this has been occurring, maybe the last couple weeks it's had this issue.

The Spotify app is version 9.0.20.604

I don't use anything to manage cache or battery life, other than the built in Battery Saver but this problem isn't affected by this.

Thanks for the response @TheMadMethod!

If you're currently using an SD-card, would you mind removing it and giving Spotify a clean reinstall with these steps once again? If there's corrupted cache, this can cause different performance issues. Test without the SD-card and let us know if the behavior persists.

Could you also let us know if this happens for example if you stream from your phone to a speaker or when you've plugged the phone into your charger?

Lastly, as you mentioned only using the built in Battery Saver, could you let us know if the battery saver mode impacts Spotify's behavior in some way?

Appreciate the cooperation and we'll be on the lookout.
