Won't download when connected to wifi

Won't download when connected to wifi

Hi I cannot download songs when connected to wifi. It displays the message "go to settings to download using cellular" I am definitely wifi connected and have experimented with turning the cellular download option on and off and turning mobile data on and off, neither chsnges anything. If I completely remove the app and reinstall it works briefly. Sometimes a log in and log out will do it. Surely this is not the norm?
Also if I go to all songs and swipe download to off mode, and then back to on many songs loose the green download indicator, and can't be downloaded again until the app is re-installed.

Yeah, same problem, only it dosen't download my Local Files that I have on my playlist AND on the same network and it doesn't work.

@spotifydaniel your issue is nothing to do with the OP's post so stop trying to hijack this thread. There are plenty of threads concerning local files with solutions - that's what the search bar is for.

Um... wasn't trying to hijack his thread.

Hi @agar041. All I can think of is that the router or modem is blocking access to the spotify server or blocking the ports used for downloading. Are you using your home network?

I've been having this problem on my s7 for the last few weeks, regardless of what wifi network i've connected to. The only thing that fixes it is closing the app (making sure it's not running in the background) and turning off the wifi on the phone. Then, open the Spotify app again and turn the wifi back on. It's not router related. I'm a network admin and I've checked the routers in question. I think it's something to do with the fact that my spotify subscription is connected to my cellular account.... but that's a guess.

Hi Joe I mainly use my home router and there is no blocking on that. I have also checked on 2 other routers and the same problem. Also doesn't explain when I shift the download to off then on and songs dissapear. Very odd.

Hi @Joss70bv mine is also an S7 and this problem began around a month ago likely with the last major software update now I think about it. My account is not linked to the phone so if your problem is the same we can probably exclude that.

Turning off the download switch will always "undownload" the music - it's the way they designed it to work. Have you always had this problem or did it start recently, maybe after installing a third party app maybe?

Could you go to this web site using a device connected to your home wifi and let me know what country it reports please?

Hi it shows New Zealand which is correct.

Same problem. Just started today; it was actually halfway through downloading an album when it stopped for this reason.

This same problem started for me over the weekend, coinciding with an android update to my galaxy s7.
Won't download at all on my home network, downloads very slowly (4 songs per hour) on my work network.
I have deleted android system cache, un/re-installed the app several times, logged out of all my devices, WiFi on/off, 4g on/off etc, etc......
Any thoughts?

Ok, this seems to be an issue with my Spotify account, just logged in on my iPad and songs won't download on there either.......

"Spotify is offline"

go to settings>playback and check that you haven't accidentally switched "Offline" on. that's what i did.

I've also been the route with this on my Galaxy S7.  Songs won't download on my home network.. either channel. But if I go down the street to Panera.. they download as they should.  Walk back to my network.. the phone connects to the wifi.. but no download.  I don't really need to spend an hour and a half in Panera.

Figured my problem out.......
Spotify needed an update on my desktop PC. Strange that "signing out everywhere" didn't clear it......

Hi, i had the same issue and found a way to fix it:

1. Turn off your WIFI in the phone's settings (mobile data should also be turned off)

2. Open Spotify, you'll notice that it tells you to go online in order to download the songs

3. Turn on your WIFI through your icon bar (swiping down)

4. Wait for Spotify to refresh

After it refreshed, all my remaining songs started to download. I hope this helps 🙂

Hey buddy, not sure if you ever got this fixed or not but I had this same issue too for my galaxy note 8, and all I needed to do was allow spotify to have access to storage in "permissions" in the app settings on my phone. It worked immediately and the songs started downloading.

Thank you very much. I had the same problem and this workaround temporarily solved the issue.

I just fixed this by closing spotify on my PC and resetting my phone. Downloaded 2 full playlists on wifi no problem after.
