My Question or Issue

hi folks, i've had this problem for probably as long as i've had spotify but i think it's gotten worse and now it's finally bothering me. i always listen to music overnight (setting the volume to the halfway point of the indicator bar), and even before i fall asleep, if i stay awake long enough i'll notice the volume start to get quieter. and lately when i've been waking up in the morning, the volume will be at the absolute minimum (but not completely muted, so it'll be one spot above the bottom of the indicator bar).

i have done the following to try to fix the issue, per other community posts:

  • done a clean reinstall of the app
  • "normalize volume" button is turned off
  • equalizer is turned off
  • edited to add: sleep timer is off

additionally, my app is up to date, my phone is up to date, and i have no sound/music settings on my phone that would change the volume. i assume the issue is with spotify as i don't recall experiencing it back when i used google play music. so does anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix it? any and all help is very much appreciated.

Hey there @SamOfTheLost

Thanks for reaching out about this and welcome to the Community.

Just to confirm, have you followed these specific steps to reinstall the app?

If so and it still doesn't work, could you let us know if this happens when you're listening through headphones or speakers?

Also, we'd like to know if this only happens on your phone or on other devices as well.

Keep us posted.

yes, i have performed a clean reinstall following the instructions in the link 🙂 it only happens when i listen through my phone speaker. my headphones work like normal, but i can't really wear those to sleep lol. i only experience the issue i'm seeking help for on my phone

Hi @SamOfTheLost

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know if this is happening when you're listening to your downloaded content or when you're streaming? If this happens when streaming, would you give a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens?

On another note, we suggest that you turn the Normalize volume on in the app settings and set the Volume level to Normal

Let us know how it goes.

hi again, the issue happens when i'm streaming music - i don't have anything downloaded. i tried your suggestions earlier today. turning on the "normalize volume" switch doesn't fix it (in fact, it seems to make the volume turn down even quicker), and i've used three different internet connections to stream; i still experienced the issue i've been having.

one thing i forgot to bring up in my initial post (but is connected) is that depending on what i listen to, the volume will actually fluctuate mid-song. for example, if i'm listening to something where more instruments start playing at a certain point, the volume will get very loud. then if the song goes to a more calm or quiet section, the volume will turn way down. i listen to stuff like rain sounds and asmr while i sleep, and so the volume only turns itself down for that.

i have experimented with all of the settings, different internet connections, everything, and i get the same result every time. i am a bit frustrated, but i'm not angry or dissatisfied with spotify and i'm definitely not trying to complain. just seeking help for an issue that's finally starting to bother me. thank you @Eni for the help and suggestions so far!

Hey @SamOfTheLost,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Would it be possible to test this with another app (e.g. YouTube) and try and play the same tracks to see if it produces the same result? You can also try reaching out to Motorola support and ask them if there's a setting on your phone that might be causing this behavior.

Keep us posted!

hi mihail, i tried to recreate the issue on youtube, but to no avail. the volume stayed the same the entire time. i just finished chatting with someone from motorola support where i mentioned all relevant details from this discussion, and they concluded that it's not being caused by either my phone itself or any settings on it. the next thing i'm going to try is downloading a few songs and playing them with my wi-fi off to see if the volume fluctuates on them. let me know what else i can do to help!

Hey @SamOfTheLost,

Thanks for your reply and for all the detailed info shared.

Since you mentioned earlier that this is happening with specific tracks, would you mind sending us the links to the ones you noticed this happens the most? In this way, we'll try to replicate this behavior on our end. You can share the links by following the steps in this article.

On another note, can you share with us the exact Spotify version you have running? It'd be awesome if you could clarify to us if this is always being like that or if you noticed this behavior after a specific event such as an OS update.

Lastly, is this happening on a different mobile device? It’d be awesome if you could check. If possible, you can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

Let us know if you notice any changes with the tracks downloaded into the app.

Keep us in the loop!
