I found a bug!
Device: Sony Xperia E4G
When wifi is turned on, a "Chromecast" always appear in the "devices available" section.
To exclude it isn't my neighbours Chromecast, I turned on wifi while taking a walk in the woods, and the "Chromecast" ghost still appeared.
Then I downloaded the Chromecast app to see if it also could find this Chromecast ghost. But it couldn't. So therefore it must be a bug in the Spotify app.
I even tried deleting cache and saved data. Didn't work. The bug persists.
I did it now even though it is illogical, because a Chromecast needs to be close to the phone or on the same network as the phone.
So if someone else is logged into my account, that persons Chromecast would not show up on my phone.
Anyway. Logging out of all devices and changing the password didn't solve it.
As I mentioned in my first post. I doesn't matter if wifi is connected or not!
To clarify.
Wifi needs to be turned on, but it does not need to be connected to anything.
Location doesn't matter. (I could be on the moon and the device would still show up on my phone!)
Hi,
Have you another device you can try this with? Also can you try a clean installation?
I don't have another Android device. 😕
And neither my iPad or PC's have this bug.
I tried a clean installation of the Spotify app. No change!
Btw. I have to apologize for one thing. In the device list, it says "Google Cast" and not "Chromecast" like I said before. I hope this didn't make it harder for you to find the bug. 😞
I recommend you contact Spotify Support using the form here.
You will get an automated reply at first, however if you need to chase them just reply to the email as it does get monitored.
