Hi there folks!
Just wanted to jump in and let you know that the lyrics on Spotify are handled by Musixmatch, so if you'd like to contribute to a song that doesn't have lyrics yet, you can join their team and become a Curator. More info can be found on Musixmatch's website.
The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
Cheers!
The lyrics of songs on Spotify are created by a combination of the songwriters, publishers, and the music streaming service.
The songwriters and publishers are responsible for writing and submitting the lyrics for the songs they create. Once the lyrics are submitted, they are then reviewed by the music streaming service, such as Spotify, to ensure that they are accurate and match the song.
For me personally, I am able to submit my lyrics to Spotify through my distributor, Distrokid. They have a tool where you can put in your lyrics and it will submit them for you. That's also how most songs are submitted, through a distributor. You can check my Spotify artist page here to see the lyrics I've submitted for my songs: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1cR403MDAPtU0ol7BOd390?si=NlQwUDPrTR6VZ8XKTghLEQ
Some people also submit lyrics to https://genius.com/ and usually fans can submit there too and also provide lyrics explanations.
If a song does not have lyrics on Spotify, it could be because the lyrics have not been submitted by the songwriters or publishers yet, or because the song is not yet available on the platform.
As for making lyrics for songs that don't have them, it's possible but there are certain restrictions and legal implications that you should be aware of.
It's important to note that lyrics and musical works are protected by copyright law, which means that creating, distributing, or using lyrics without permission from the copyright holder is illegal.
If you're an artist or songwriter and you want to submit your own lyrics to Spotify or any other streaming service, you should contact the music publisher or the copyright holder for permission.
If you're a fan who wants to contribute lyrics to a song that is not yet available on Spotify, you should check with the copyright holder if they are open to fan contributions.
In any case, keep in mind that submitting lyrics without permission could lead to legal issues and it's not recommended.

[Edit Context: I have made it to Musixmatch PRO, and this is now the only issue stopping me from adding lyrics to existing tracks]
Hi.
Trying to add lyrics to a couple of track songs that have been on Spotify for a few months now.
Noticed there were lyrics added to another track unrelated, but it was never synced, and just a wall of text.
Musixmatch wanted to link Spotify/Apple Music Artists to add these lyrics.
I followed these steps:
And believe it is this problem here:
However, it still leaves me without a verifiable link to add lyrics to the songs. I am confused because it says others have edited stuff in past - but nothing has been done. So is it the Spotify/Apple Music streaming platform, or the Artist on their end for not updating their changes for lyrics?
Figured Spotify forums would help. Cheers.
Sincerely,
- Joe
