My Question or Issue

When my wife uses Spotify on her phone on the way somewhere and I start playing Youtube in my browser on my laptop at home it will interrupt/pause her Spotify. If she then clicks "play" again it stops my youtube. My Spotify is not even open. I do not understand why Spotify and Youtube react as if we are both trying to use Spotify at the same time. Moreover why do the action on the phone trigger anything on my laptop eventhough the programm/app is closed!!!! It is so frustrating and actually terrifying that this happens with the programm being closed. So it is actually constantly open in the background? WHY?

Please help! I could not find any other posts about this problem.

Thanks.

Hey there @MainEvent,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

That's odd indeed. Can you let us know if this happens when both your wife's phone and your laptop are connected to the same network or even on different networks? We'd also like to know if either your wife's phone or your laptop are connected to another device (like a speaker, a TV, etc.) via Spotify Connect or Cast.

Lastly, we'd like to know if you share the same Spotify account or if you have your own separate accounts.

Keep us posted. We'll be on the lookout.

Hi @CarlosE!

Thank you for the welcome and for the quick reaction to my problem.

This even happens when we are in different networks: one connected at home to the wifi and the other walking the streets two miles away via mobile network.

I am not aware of us using Spotify Connect. At home we usually play the music on the laptop via a bluetooth connected Marshall speaker and outsider on the iphone via bluetooth Marshall headphones or standard Apple cable connected headphone.

But we have a Google Chromecast (always plugged to electricity) on our TV (switched off). We never use it for Spotify. But could it still be the issue? What else could it be?

We use one Spotify Account. But my Spotify is not even opened when this happens.

I really hope a solution can be found and I am curious to know what the issue is.

Thank you for your help!

Hey @MainEvent,

Thanks for the reply.

This is very weird issue indeed.

Normally the two apps should have no effect on each other on separate devices whatsoever.

What might be happening is the following - if you're streaming music via the Marshall speaker or one of the home devices from Youtube and you wife starts streaming music via Spotify Connect on that same device, this could stop the playback of what you're currently streaming on the speaker.

Can you try to log out Everywhere, as this will assure that the Spotify account is logged off all devices. After that try playing music from the two apps on different devices without streaming to an external speaker via Bluetooth or WiFi.

Let us know if the issue persists.

Cheers.
