Can't connect to Apple TV from Spotify apps

Can't connect to Apple TV from Spotify apps

I can't connect and play music through Spotify Connect to my Apple TV that I've just set up.

I can send audio from MacOS to Apple TV over Airplay with no issue, but I'd like the TV to play, so I can have other sounds play on my devices while listening to music. And be able to see what I'm listening to (and maybe even lyrics for some great karaoke times?!)

If I open the Spotify app on Apple TV first, it shows up on in Spotify on my devices, but selecting it and it starting to play is very hit and miss. Also I believe I should be able to select the Apple TV from my other devices, just like Sonos and Chromecast.

Apple TV and apps are all updated and on the same wifi.

Hey, how are you? Welcome to the Spotify Community!

  • Restart the Apple TV and Spotify App: Sometimes, restarting the devices can fix temporary connection issues. Restart your Apple TV and close the Spotify app on your devices before trying to connect again.

  • Restart Your Wi-Fi Router: Network issues can interfere with connectivity. Restart your router to ensure all devices are properly connected to the same network.

  • Check Network Connection: Ensure your Apple TV and other devices (iPhone, Mac, etc.) are connected to the same Wi-Fi. Network discrepancies can cause problems with Spotify Connect.

  • Disable and Re-enable Spotify Connect: In the Spotify app, try turning off and on the device connection feature.

    • Open Spotify on your device.
    • Tap the devices icon (bottom-left corner of the playback screen).
    • Check if the Apple TV appears as an option.
    • If it doesn't appear, force a search and refresh the device list.
  • Reinstall the Spotify App on Apple TV: If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify directly on the Apple TV. There may be an installation error causing the connection failure.

  • Check Spotify Playback Settings: Make sure in Spotify settings that "Spotify Connect" is enabled for all devices. Sometimes device permissions may be limiting its use.

  • Manually Restart Spotify Connect:

    • Close the Spotify app on all devices.
    • Restart the app on Apple TV.
    • On another device (such as your iPhone or Mac), open Spotify and try connecting to Apple TV again.
  • "Background Sound" Mode on Apple TV: Ensure that Apple TV is correctly set up to play background audio, allowing Spotify to continue playing even when you use other apps or return to the home screen.

I hope these suggestions help you!

My Question or Issue

We have the Duo Premium plan. The plan we pair with our Apple TVs no longer works. I receive a message that the account has successfully paired by the Apple TV screen never updates. It has worked consistently up to today (12/11/2024). The Apple TVs are up to date. The Spotify app is up to date. I only have one WiFi. VERY frustrating.

I have deleted the Spotify apps and reinstalled. I have cleared the cache. I have logged out and logged in. May be time to shop for another service.
