Playlists on Profile Page Have Same Artist for All Songs

When I launch Spotify on my laptop (Mac, Mountain Lion) and click on my profile icon in the upper right corner, all of the playlists that show up have the same artist for ALL of my songs.

I've restarted Spotify and double-clicked on one of the songs to see if the correct artist would populate once it started playing... no luck.

Just started using Spotify and hope all of these issues are user error and not weaknesses in the app.

That sounds like a strange issue, can you try a quick clean reinstallation of the client and see if that helps?
