What's new in this version (1.0.9)
Solved! Go to Solution.
@ zerkms
I repeat the solution i've posted before:
The symbolic link method still works.
Try it and submit your comments.
Close all Spotify activity before you proceed with this.
1. go to C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Spotify (hidden files)
2. delete the folder called Data
3. choose the location you prefer to use to store the stream data for instance: F:\Spotify_Data
4. create this folder on your system
5. run the command prompt as administrator
6. enter or copy: mklink /d "C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Spotify\Data" "F:\Spotify_Data"
7. press the enter key
8. a symbolic link is now created and the data stream is prevented to clog your SSD but instead rerouted to your choosen location.
9 If you navigate to C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Spotify (hidden files) you will notice the link you've created and you can remove this (symbolic) link at any time if you desire to do so.
Considerations:
1. This is a quick and dirty solution for a problem that should not have been there in the first place.
2. I don't know what will happen to this "solution" as from the next version release of the so busy developpers at the Spotify team, probably they hate it and will try to kill it.
3. In an optimistic scenario you will enjoy this solution and the music to listen to.
4. in a less optimistic case...
I know about symlinks and use it for something else.
It's a dirty workaround, and I'd rather wait for developers to finally realize they need to put some code, not just a control.
The previous shade of green was way easier on the eyes ... now i can't look at this ... ugh ...
note to spotify: don't let colorblind designers pick colors.
Ever since the update occured, my Spotfy on my desktop is not working. I try to open it and it says "spotify is not responding". I completely uninstall and delete all spotify folders and re-installed it. Once I open it, it doesn't play music. Then if I close it and re-open it, I get the not responding message again.
What else can be done to fix this besides what I have already done?
@nickolem3
Have you got change some folders permissions (i.e. for moving cache) or similar ?
Seems that the client cant write temp data.
The latest version (1.0.9.133) write cache in \local\data and if cant write here simply dont work.
Check your folder permissions or, alternatively, try older version like 1.0.8.59 that probably work for you.
Regards.
why you change colour ?? no is very bad i prefere before
Hello. I have the latest version, but I have a problem and that is that it can only play 3-5 seconds of some songs. What can be the problem?
@lasthope
If you mean the issue with the program installing in the wrong place, I have full admin rights on the PC, and I have no issues with any other software install.
Secondly, I have seen other posts stating the same problem from other users.
Thirdly, I should point out that the software should not just plonk it's installation files anywhere it likes if it doesn't have the right access - it should stop and output an error message. At the moment, it installs the software wherever, but the icon still points to the old version.
Yo maybe fix the issues with local files not loading properly. Nobody cares about a stupid goddamn colour. I'm about ready to go to apple music or whatever because of this useless update. For a good 4 or 5 months I've had to keep going back to old spotify BECAUSE YOU CANT GET A SINGLE GODDAMN THING RIGHT!
Hate the new colour 😞 And the lines in the spotify logo looks wrinkeld
It was useless so I had to remove it and install the previous release. Fortunately it won't auto-update until I run it as administrator, so that is a temporary solution... Definitely not going to renew premium until such things and the PS4 version are fixed.
Glad we can select the cache location now! This was the biggest problem for me with Spotify.
Edit: Still caching to the Windows drive on my SSD!!

- Store your music where you want. Head over to Settings to pick your cache location.
What's the point of allowing users to choose cache location if streaming data is still stored in appdata\local?
@I've tweeted @SpotifyCares about this issue. Their advice was to reinstall the app, which of course didn't solve the problem. I suggested reading this thread and then they asked me if I had tried the workaround mentioned here.
So, does that mean that we have to rely on a workaround suggested by a user to solve a problem that shouldn't even exist?

Cache location doesn't work, at least not the way a cache should.
Using explorer I can see my set location at E:\TEMP\Spotify remain steady at 2 MB while the default folder on C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Spotify\Data is still filling up.
Yes I have reset, restarted and NO i will not use a workaround for something you have broken and should have fixed 4 months ago.
.
Does not work: when you search some song, and from the results you choose PLAY from left. It changes the little icon to PAUSE, but left down corner where the player is does not happen anything and there is no music. PC Desktop v. 1.0.9.133.
So after 2 weeks we can't play Spotify.
