can't login mac os x

Solved!

can't login mac os x

Hi, I have been using Spotify Premium for about 3 months with no problems at all ... until today. Can't login. I type my email and password in to the dialog (Facebook login) and it keeps telling me there is an error, something about being behind a firewall. error 101. I have changed absolutly nothing on my system from one day to the next. And Spotify just took their payment out of my bank account. Love to listen to music again. Any ideas out there?? Anyone else have this experience?

BilL

PS  I have no trouble loging into the spotify website. I changed my facebook password, and did a re-install of the spotify app on my computer. I cant think of anything else to do.

Hi guys,

Error 101 does typically mean a connection error, which is very often related to your firewall. There are instructions on how to try and sort it here: http://www.spotify.com/help/faq/tech/clean-reinstallation-of-spotify/

Maybe I'm being completely clueless here but why does someone need to reinstall to rectify a firewall issue.

I can only assume Sam meant this link: http://www.spotify.com/help/faq/error/error-101-126/

I have been having exacly the same issue. I have completley uninstaled and then reinstaled spotify and my firewall is turned off. Now I cant even open spotify, it tells me i have firewall issues at the logging in stage!! The problem has just been made worse by uninstaling!

I managed to get logged in with a username I found on the account pages, which has nothing to do with my Facebook account (as far as I'm aware), seems pointless connecting my facebook account to a spotify account, and not being able to log in to the application via the spotify application using my facebook username and password.  I think there might be a setting somewhere that allows me to use my facebook account and not this numberical username that has been generated but If try figure it out later.  Just thought that might be the case for you?

Sam,

I can logon to my account on my HP laptop using my Facebook account - but not my username.

I can't logon to my account on my Mac Air at all - neither my Facebook account or my username works.

Please help me out with this. It doesn't make any sense.

Phil

PS. The password reset link in here doesn't work either.

Did you solve this problem? I can login from a device (my Tivo) but not on my MacBook. Neither the numeric Spotify username nor my FB credentials work.

@JimR - Is it error 101?

No. The only error is in the dialog ("invalid username/password" or "can't access Facebook", depending on whether I use the wrong username or password...). I managed to resolve it, without really grasping what the key step was. Another thread had suggested launching from Facebook (clicking the Music app - on the web browser interface - presents an option to "Start Listening" to Spotify). This did *not* work for me. Another thread suggested disabling device notifications on Facebook. I happened to also remove some obsolete Facebook login devices. Hard to image how either of those impacts Spotify login from the desktop app, but who knows? Ultimately, some combination of closing the app, attempting to start it from Facebook, and restarting it, disabling FB device notifications, and deleting old FB devices, ended up clearing the problem. I never changed my password, neither my FB password nor my Spotify device password.

Same problem here. MacBook Pro cannot login with un/pw or FB.

Although logging in to the forum with same credentials worked and out firewall does not block Spotify.

I had the same problem.  I followed the directions for uninstalling spotify, then turned off my firewall, then re-downloaded it and logged in with my username and password (as opposed to Facebook) and it worked!  Thanks!

I had the sam problem, and their is a way easier solution. It is indeed a firewall thingy, for me it was on the network side, so I just connected to a hot-spot of my phone and logged in again via the Mac app and voila! it works.

Here is what I did after my newly installed Spotify app would crash after logging into the browser and switching back to the app.  Before logging in change the settings of the proxy setting to no proxy. The app will have to restart.  Then continue to log in which will open a browser window.  After logging in, the Spotify app should not crash and you will be logged in, but you will have to go into settings and change the proxy setting back to autodetect.  After restarting the app again, everything should work as expected....

Mine is still crashing when I click the log in prompt in the browser tab, even with the proxy turned off

Hey @NocturnallyYours,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Have you tried using a different network, e.g. a hot spot from your phone? Does this happen with the desktop app as well or with a different device?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!
