My Question or Issue
Crossfade doesn't work. This has been an ongoing issue for me for YEARS. Sometimes it stops working and it takes months to work again. I already tried EVERYTHING. Including uninstalling and re-installing, from the website and from microsoft store. Nothing works and it sucks. Also never get any help from spotify on twitter as usual, they dont help us at all.
I can't stand listening to music without crossfade and I'm tried of always having something not working on my spotify. For the past few months I also had a problem with low volume. I wasted over an hour chatting with "support" and of course they didnt help at all. I'm tired and might just drop them and finally go to apple music.
Anyone else having this issue?

Hello! Just wanted to do a quick update on my issue. None of these things you guys suggested worked, although I appreciate the help in trying to fix my issue. Since none of it worked I just accepted it that I was going to have to live without crossfade and since this has happened other times, I let it go. However 2 days ago, for some reason, I turned the crossfade again, just to see if there were any changes. I noticed my spotify had updated again and I also did a windows update last week. And now the crossfade feature is working again. So the problem fixed itself. It was probably a bug on my end with my spotify version and windows but it seemed that anything I would try didn't work and didn't fix it.
I'm glad it fixed itself!
Appreciate your help!
Hey there @Procrastinaholic,
Thanks for reaching out on the Community! And kudos for the troubleshooting you've tried as well.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, is the crossfade option grayed out in the app settings?
Or is the setting available and switched on, but doesn't seem to apply to the songs you're listening to? If it's available, could you double-check if changing the crossfade time slider from 0 to 12 to see if it makes any difference?
It's also worth noting that crossfade isn't available for albums, in playlists compiled from an album, and when using the Connect feature.
On another note, as you mention that you're experiencing issues with the volume level, we're currently looking into an issue similar to what you're describing. Feel free to have a look at this thread for more info. You can also leave a comment with your details there, should it be what you're experiencing as well.
Let us know how you get on!
H! Thank you for replying.
To answers your questions:
1. Yes, the crossfade option is available and I have tried changing to different seconds as well turning on and off.
2. I'm aware crossfade doesn't work when using connect.
3. I'm listening to playlists I created and noticed the crossfade hasnt been working and while I was testing I was listening to playlists and not albums.
I have nothing else to do it seems because I have tried all the troubleshooting I could find online.
I will check out the thread you mentioned, thanks!
Hey @Procrastinaholic,
Thanks for following up - we appreciate the extra details!
Could you check if the same thing happens with another Spotify account (if you haven't already)? For example, you can ask a friend or a family member to sign in to their own Spotify account on your device to see if it behaves in the same way.
Another thing that comes to mind is creating copies of the playlists that you notice this behavior with, to check if newly created lists works better. You can easily create a copy by right-clicking on the playlist > Add to other playlist > New playlist. Or, if you usually have bigger playlists with a lot of tracks added, an option is dividing them in to smaller lists. This can sometimes help with playback and app performance.
Keep us posted!
Hi!
Yes I can check with a different account, I'll do that today.
When it comes to playlists, yeah the problem persists with all of them, there's no difference. I have new playlists (created last week) and old ones from years ago. The crossfade doesn't work. Some playlists are as short as 30 minutes others are like 24 hours. It didn't even cross my mind this could make a difference. I'll try to log with a different account and report back. Thank you! I appreciate the help!
Hi! I tried with a different account and still doesn't work. Just wanted to make sure my account wasn't the problem.
Another thing I also checked was my audio drivers, they're updated.
Hey there @Procrastinaholic,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Could you let us know if this is only happening on your PC or on other devices as well? It'd be great if you could check.
On another note, would you mind checking if the OS of your PC has any pending updates? If there isn't any, sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be waiting for your reply.
Hi! Yes it's updated. I actually just checked it again earlier this morning. No pending updates on windows.
I could screenshot because I don't know to screen record, also there's nothing to show. The feature is turned on but when I listen to songs it just doesn't crossfade. That's it.
And yes, this problem is happening only on my computer. I have noticed that I only have problems with Spotify on my computer and never or rarely on my phone. I'm sure it could be something related to my computer? The thing is, I'm not experiencing any issues with other programs I run. It's always spotify. Like the volume issue, sometimes it's fixed and then it happens again months later. And now the crossfade stopped working again. It's always back and forth with these issues. I was never able to find a permanent solution.
Hey there @Procrastinaholic,
Thanks for your reply and for all the info you kindly sent us.
We'd like to continue isolating this behavior. Since you mentioned this is only happening on your computer, would you mind trying to run the app in Safe Mode with Networking to rule out any issues with your default Windows settings and basic device drivers?
On another note, if possible, would you mind opening your account on a different computer to see if you can replicate this behavior? You can ask the computer of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.
Lastly, it'd be awesome if you could send us the exact Spotify version you're running on your computer.
Keep us in the loop!
