Music starts playing after headset is turned off.

Music starts playing after headset is turned off.

My music starts playing when i turn off my work headset (bluetooth connection via USB). I was not listening to music before it was turned on or during. I usually am in a call, so when i turn my headset off after the call the music or podcast starts playing out loud. This is not acceptable since it plays out loud in public settings. I’ve tried various settings, but it doesn’t stop. This doesn’t happen for any other media player on my laptop.

Thanks for reaching out. Does this happen on any other device or just on the one Windows PC? Does it happen with other headphones? Consider performing a clean reinstall if you haven't already as that can help with a multitude of issues.

Also experience this issue, on one Windows 11 device (other seems fine so far)

  • Device model, OS version and Spotify version: 
    - Dell XPS 15 9530
    - Spotify for Windows (64 bit)

  • Time and date of the last occurrence (including your time zone)
    - 24-04-2024 11:30 CEST

We'd like to look further into this but in order to do that we would need to know what Bluetooth device you were trying to connect to. Also, could you let us know what troubleshooting you've tried so far so we don't repeat ourselves when trying to help.

I still reproduce this issue. Here is the info you requested:

 

Bluetooth device:

Bose SoundLink Mini (https://support.bose.com/s/product/soundlink-mini-bluetooth-speaker/01t8c00000OydNqAAJ?language=en_U...)

 

Spotify:

Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.35.663.gb699649e

 

Windows:

Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎06/‎12/‎2022
OS build 22631.3447
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22688.1000.0

 

 

Troubleshootings steps performed:

- restart Windows

- uninstall Spotify, clear Spotify cache/settings from %AppData%, restart Windows, reinstall Spotify

- uninstall Bluetooth drivers for device, restart Windows, reinstall drivers

- tested behavior with other software: see my comment in another thread: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Music-plays-by-itself-after-bluetooth-disconnected/m-p/5794...

 

Reproduction scenario (reproduced all the time doing those steps):

- connect the Bose SoundLink Mini to Windows via Bluetooth

- open Spotify

- play something then pause

- turn off the Bluetooth device either by pressing the on/off button or by timeout (the device automatically turns off X minutes after no sound is emitted, I don't know exactly what X is, my guesstimation is ~15 minutes)

==> Spotify (window minimized or not minimized, in foreground or below other windows) starts to play

Judging from your other linked reply, this seems to not be an issue with Spotify but rather your personal PC and/ or the specific speaker (or its drivers). In your situation I would reach out directly to the Bose support folks 🙂

It happens to me as well with 3 other different headphones so the provided answers does not make sense

I am experiencing this exact issue.

While listening to spotify, I pause the music, and then power-off my headphones - this triggers spotify to start playing again, from the computers speakers. 

 

The headphones has automatic pause function whenever I remove them physically from my head - this works as expected. It is when I power them off it triggers spotify to start playing again.

@MrNorway, @rsnowareski, we'd like to check if performing a clean reinstall of the app on the affected devices would make a difference. Please follow these steps to do it and let us know if you notice any changes.

 

If not, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us (if you haven't yet):

  • The exact Spotify version you're running.
  • The make model and OS of the affected devices.
  • Does this happen across all your devices or just one?
  • Send us a video recording of what's happening on your side. You can attach the videos in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload them to YouTube or Google Drive and make them public, so we can visualize them.

You can add Jabra Evolve2 65 to that list. It's something with Spotify and Windows' media controls, I suppose. Doesn't seem like an issue we should take to the headphone manufacturers.

Seeing how many different devices are affected, we're starting to think this might indeed have something to do with the interactions between Spotify and the Windows media controls. As we're currently looking into this, could you also try the troubleshooting steps, mentioned by @AlejaR and @JohnnyLaFrite (+ anything else if you've covered additional troubleshooting) and let us know which steps you've gone over? This will help our tech folks backstage with identifying the root cause of this behaviour.

This has been an annoyance for a while now but the desktop app starts randomly playing music when the default bluetooth device is disconnected.

I'd like to get some more information!

 

  • What device are you disconnecting, is it a speaker, headset, etc?
  • How are you disconnecting the device, are you ending the connection via Bluetooth settings or powering it off, etc?
  • Does the device have any media buttons? (Play/Pause, skip, volume controls)

If there is any other information you think might be relevant, I would appreciate that as well!

 

As for reCaptcha, it is an automated process that Spotify has no control over. Unfortunately, they can't help with that!

Yes, it has media buttons, see link above as it is direct to product specs of my specific device

 

 

As for the reCaptcha, it's on your website. Please don't tell a dev you have no controll over it lol.

 

Please read the docs. You're using reCaptcha version 2, https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/docs/display

 

Upgrade to version 3 and you'll have added control of the captcha via the captcha admin console (https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create)

 

... or just remove it for premium members or something. It's totally unnecessary in this instance as you're not going to get bots using a paid service and if a child spams silly stuff just banhammer them. Simple.

 

Or use another recaptcha service that isn't so unnecessarily aggressive. Providing feedback is a huge pain and I shouldn't have to click this thing 10 times just to give you feedback or bug reports.

Same Here! I am connected to an android device Samsung s22Ultra with the bluetooth earbuds sony WF-1000XM5.
As soon as I put the earbuds back to their case, spotify starts playing as loud as it can, even when if I wasnt using spotify

Hey folks,

 

Those of you who experience this on Windows, could you check if disabling the communication settings, as well as Exclusive Mode and audio enhancements has any effect on this? You'll find the steps below:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel, switch to the Communications tab and set "When Windows detects communications activity" to Do nothing.
  2. Head back to the Playback tab, then right-click your audio output device and select Properties. In the new window that pops up, switch to the Advanced tab and untick "Exclusive Mode" + "Enable audio enhancements".

If this is happening on your phone, try revoking access to your contacts from your Bluetooth device to see if that helps. You can also force-stop Spotify so it isn't running in the background, that should do the trick.
