My Question or Issue

I have the same issue with spotify on both devices.

On my computer, Spotify runs EXTREMELY slowly, to the point that opening the software takes so long that I open it, forget about it, then return to it and select a song... only, it takes about 5-20 minutes to actually play the song. Once the song ends, another 5-20 minutes for the next song to play. It used to work perfectly fine, then one day just stopped functioning properly. I've read other forums, so off of the top of my head I will list everything I've already done:

- The RAM usage detected by the task manager is fine. Nothing is using an insane amount, including Spotify

- I've uninstalled Spotify and deleted the cache folder to make sure it is entirely wiped from my computer, restarted my pc, then installed the latest version from the website. I also did these same steps with the Spotify app offered in the Microsoft Store

- This issue is not caused by large playlists because although I do have some on my Spotify account, they are not downloaded and it happens to any song either from a playlist or not

- The web browser works perfectly fine (I could just use this, but it tends to use a bit more ram than the app). The app does not function correctly even when offline

- I've tried disabling the hardware acceleration option. No improvements

On my Samsung phone, the app works fine until it is connected to certain internet connections. My internet does not have any restrictions on it, especially not for a music app, so I don't know where the issue arises from. Again, I did a clean wipe of the app and reinstalled. No difference. Everytime I want to listen to music, I have to disconnect from the internet and use my data.

Are there any solutions to this? Any help is appreciated.

Hi there @DPlumes,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • When did this start happening? Did this coincide with any specific update?
  • Does your phone only have such issues when connected to your home Wi-Fi? Does it work normally on other Wi-Fi networks?
  • Could you try logging in with a different account and test if the behaviour is the same? You can use the account of someone you know or make one yourself.
  • A video of the behaviour, especially on Desktop, as such long delays are not something we've observed before. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Hello,

- This has started since I began using the desktop app about a year ago around August of 2023. The phone app also began having issues around that time. I had returned back to the US after being in the Philippines for a few months, so I don't know if my problems would have risen earlier had I been home.

- It has issues with most Wi-Fi connections. I get surprised when I manage to find an internet connection that runs Spotify, however that hasn't happened in months. My friends also encounter the same exact issue in their homes as well, so we all use our data to play Spotify. We all live in the same city. However, our Wi-Fi should not have any restrictions, as they are completely open and unrestricted.

- The video is too long to attach, so here's a link to the unlisted video:

https://youtu.be/eYMdVRwTaCo

I couldn't capture task manager in the video, but it remained low throughout its usage. The same occurs on my phone where opening the app is an impossibly slow task and sometimes crashes when connected to Wi-Fi.

Thanks for the cooperation @DPlumes.

Unfortunately, we couldn't open and view the video. Would you mind sending it again?

You did mention that you have to disconnect from the internet and use your data. Do you mean mobile data and does the same behavior occur if you're using mobile data? In case you haven't tried that and if it's possible, test with sharing mobile data to your computer via hotspot and let us know if that changes anything.

As @Joan suggested, it's also worth asking a relative or a friend to log in to their account on your devices to check if the issue persists.

Hope to hear from you soon!

You could attempt to trouble shoot it and not treat them as if they are lying. I'm having the same damn issues for months and you days just gaslight us non stop.

I've made the video public. Link to the video: https://youtu.be/eYMdVRwTaCo

Yes, I mean mobile data when I refer to data. No, the issue does not occur when on data.

When connecting my PC to my mobile hotspot network, Spotify runs perfectly fine.

None of our Spotify accounts work on the internet via anyone's smartphone or PC, no matter who's account we're signed into. This occurs on different internet connections/Wi-Fi routers.

Again, I must reiterate that my internet has ZERO restrictions. This issue occurs on most internet connections that I try to connect to.

Hey @DPlumes,

Thank you for the patience and continued cooperation in resolving this!
Are you and your friends by any chance using the same internet service provider? As the issue is not present when a hotspot is used, this keeps me thinking that something is off with the internet connection you have at your homes.

And @DefaultUsername14, have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in our previous posts? The issue seems to be strictly connected to the internet networks themselves but there's no harm in going through the steps, even if it's just to make sure the issue doesn't lie elsewhere.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your responses.

its obvious thats not the problem. maybe try and actually resolve the issue instead of refusing to believe that your app is being dumb. you moderators obviously have a script created in order to fake customer service and push your own agenda. do better.
