[Discover] New Releases Section for Followed Artists INSTEAD of Release Radar Playlist

This is a follow-up to this idea: New Releases Section for Followed Artists by @MattSuda.

While the original idea currently has over 1,300 votes, Spotify's answer was that the Release Radar playlist meets the need presented. I don't think this is true, and I have doubts that the +1,000 people who voted do, either.

So this new idea is an attempt to gauge the level of support for a true New Releases from Followed Artists section in spite of the existence of the new Release Radar playlist.

We want a feed that:

  • Shows new releases ONLY from the artists we follow, and shows ALL new releases from the artists we follow
  • Shows releases neatly in chronological order, with clear headings showing the full release date (day, month, and year)
  • Neatly presents new releases in the form they were released (i.e., EP's and Albums are shown as such rather than as a list of all songs within them -- or make this a toggle option)
  • Goes back in time as far as possible (preferably all time, to show all releases from our Followed Artists in chronological order)
  • Clearly indicates which releases are new to us since our last visit
  • Has a number badge on the button for the section that tells us if there are new releases since our last visit, and how many
  • Not crucial but nice to have: Can be filtered by time frame, artist, release type (album, EP, single), country, genre, etc.

How is this STILL no a thing? The release radar doesn't meet those requirements at all, i want to ONLY listen to artists that i actually follow. What do you need to implement this simple feature, Spotify? A NASA sized team of scientists?

Hi guys from Spotify,
I understand from a marketing standpoint that you want people to discover new artists and songs outside their bubble. And present them music that the algorithm tells will fit.

But please give us a chronological release feed for artist we follow. You can add new recommendations there as well. I actually would start listening to more new artist if you would present it this way.

Release Radar Playlist are so clumsy. I hate browsing them for new music. Especially since I listen to a lot music I can't remember every song I might already have in my playlists or not. And I always have the feeling I miss so many songs from my favorite artists.

Right now I have to click on my Spotify profile every Friday, click on the artist list I follow and go through every artist (120+) and look whether they have released new music and how many songs. And most of the times I'm not even sure which are new since they don't have the exact release date. So I have to check via my phone for the exact release dates while adding them to my playlists on my PC. This takes a lot of time and is such a bad user experience.

It prevents me from coming back to Spotify more often to quickly check for new releases. **bleep**, I only check for new releases every month nowadays because I hate this process so much. And because of this I don't even check for new music from artist I don't know since I already have to deal with this **bleep**.

This is a real problem many people are facing (see upvotes from multiple idea tickets) and hinders us from discovering new music and enjoying the UI. Your artists suffer from less exposure and ultimately you are generating less song plays and unhappy customers that won't be that loyal. You really should address this and I think it's not that great of a task that it will take too many resources for the added value to implement.

Edit: You could just implement/buy the Spotify release list netlify app. This almost everything I'm looking for.

We need this. Several of my favourite artists that I follow have released new music lately. I have to search everyone manually.

Listen to your customers. We need this. And we want this.

Yes Please ... I still have no idea why is is not done still, by these lazy developers. I don't even get why I am able to like artists if I am not able to see this kind of song/album release timeline.

do it now

PLEASE.
How on earth following artists on Facebook is more efficient than following them on Spotify?

+1 -- I want Release Radar as it is, for algorithmic discovery, and a "Your Releases" or whatever you want to call it that is all of our followed artists releases in reverse chronological order. I'm even fine with it being limited to the last 50 or even 20 releases. I find it surprisingly hard to see what new stuff my favorite artists have without spending hours creating my own custom playlists. Please give this one some consideration!

I feel like google play had a reasonably decent system for new releases before they shut down. It simply created a list of "albums" (singles got stuck in here too) from artists you had favourited that released music on that week, along with "albums" from suggested artists. Arbitrary time or qty limits on the album feed could be set to prevent everyone having an infinitely long list, but at least that could give us a one stop weekly look into new music, even if it disappeared and refreshed every week.

I recognize I may be in the minority (maybe not for music fans), but I like to listen to a whole albums, not just singles. A playlist of singles (that are mostly from bands I don't have followed) doesn't help me experience new music at all. I actively avoid the playlist because it's not at all how I want to consume music.

I'm curious if anyone knows of outside apps that might read our follow data from spotify and be able to give us the information we're asking for.

A few years ago I created a small webapp http://www.spotifyradar.com , for
my own personal use. It creates an overview of all the new releases of the
artists you follow on Spotify. It's free for everyone, no ads.
I was just annoyed by the fact Spotify doesn't listen to the most obvious
requests. Give it a go! When I have some free time I will try to add some
easy playlist features...
