[Mobile][Browse] Bring back like indicator on album/playlist

Spotify just decided to remove the most useful feature of likes—the ability to see which songs you've liked in albums and playlists. I used likes to see which songs I've listened to before, which songs I've liked, which albums I like more than other albums, etc, etc. And now all it does is spit the song into a giant, undifferentiated "likes" playlist. Bring back likes! What purpose does it serve to remove them except make the experience worse for long-time, loyal users?

Please bring back the "heart icons" next to the songs we liked in an album or a playlist. That feature is one of the reasons why I stick to Spotify and keep my monthly subscription. Last week, I was not really motivated to listen to my Discover weekly playlist because the heart icons are not visible in each playlist and album! PLEASE. BRING. IT. BACK, SPOTIFY!

PLEASE bring the heart back- idc what it looks like we need a way to visually distinguish songs/artists we have already explored. I have left comments on every thread i can find to express my disappointment and frustration with the inability to organize liked music from unknown/disliked music. For me, spotify is now unusable. I shouldnt have to play a song to find out if i have heard it before or already like it

I mean cmon! Why did this have to happen? I get that it has the useful functionality of allowing you to add songs to multiple playlists but it just makes it worse when you want to add a song really quick. Say you catch the end of a song and you want to add it all you had to do was hit the ❤️ and then you could add it to whatever you wanted later. Or let’s say driving, Spotify seems to be about making it easier to interact with the app while driving and the UI update of car mode is great. But now you have to make at least 3 taps to add a song (the plus, the playlist or lists, and then done). Some people may like the new button but just make it customizable that’s what people love most….customization!!!

The functionality of the plus button is better than the heart. It makes making playlists more efficient and I can make multiple playlists at once now which I never did before because of the hassle. However once I add a song to my “liked playlist” it no longer leaves a heart next to the song inside the album. Those hearts really helped as a confirmation for songs that had been added to my playlists I had created from that album.

Leave the plus button on the song page, it’s great.

But please bring back the heart (or change it to a plus) next to the songs in the albums that have been plussed.

Thanks, I really like the design move!

I just commented on a thread about this exact issue! Removing any on screen indication of Liked Songs when scrolling through an album or playlist makes no sense. In the eight years I have used the app there has always been a way to tell which songs I've liked at a glance, until now. Replacing where the hearts would've been in a list view with the new plus symbol would be fine, but having no indication at all until you go into Now Playing view is pointless.

it’s so insane to me that they purposely removed this feature. i’ve been a spotify user for years and stayed through (and ultimately adjusted to) many distasteful ui changes, but this is the first time an update has seriously hindered my enjoyment of the app. does the design team even use the app outside of work? if they did they’d know how useful an indication of the songs you liked are for navigation, i am seriously so baffled with the decision to remove it. being able to go to an album you’ve listened to and see the songs you enjoyed was so nice, especially when you don’t remember the song titles (which is almost always for me). spotify devs cmon, use basic common sense when deciding to change a core feature

How many times are they gonna test this idea? People clearly like seeing which songs they’ve liked. Stop making it so hard to see that.

Why can't a song that i liked by an artist, no matter what album it is on show as liked so I don't have to go back and search to see if i have already liked that song?

DrewGottlieb

I've been in this A/B test for the past week and it's been miserable. I can't do most of the things I used to do in Spotify. Here's a small list:

  • I can't see which songs in my Discover Weekly and Release Radar I've liked.
    • This also makes it really hard to jump back in where I left off.
  • When viewing an artist I can't tell what top songs of theirs I like at a glance.
  • In playlists I collaborate on with friends, I can't see what I've liked.
  • In friends' playlists I can no longer show them at a glance "oh yeah, I like these songs of your playlist too!"
    • In fact, I have no idea which songs of theirs I listen to. I haven't memorized the names of all 15k songs I've liked.
  • When a new album from an artist I love comes out, I can't add all the album's songs to my Liked Songs (which is the nearly exclusive way I consume my library).
    • You've kept the "Like Album" (which does nothing with the songs, it just pins the album)
    • But you remove "Like All Songs" which is self-explanatory. So now I have to go and, for each song, swipe the song leftwards to like it.
      • OH, but if I hit one song in the middle of that album I've already liked (e.g. it released previously as a single) it now pops up this big modal showing which playlist(s) it's in. That's not useful, and just slows down manually liking each song even more.
  • Also not only do I no longer get to glance at which songs in a playlist/album/artist that I like, but I can't even "peek" at it's Liked/Unliked status by sliding it left without releasing my finger. Previously, if the song is Liked and you peek at it, the action you're peeking at will be the red "Unlike" action. But now it shows as ( + ) regardless of whether you've Like it or not.

As a Spotify user of nearly a decade (15k liked songs!), I'm very used to being in A/B tests that are sometimes wonderful and sometimes annoying. But never have I been in one that has so fundamentally destroyed my user experience with Spotify and sucked all the fun out of it. I'm mourning the loss of it.
