[Mobile] [Other] Smart Shuffle toggle setting in settings menu

Smart shuffle is a fun way to discover new songs, but it comes at a cost. Want to reshuffle your queue? Bam, wait a few seconds longer. Want to unshuffle your playlist? Bam, no longer works, and goes to a completely random place in the playlist.

To me this is an unwanted complication, and I'd much rather be able to choose in the settings menu whether I want to enable the Smart Shuffle feature, or disable it.

please please please add this as a toggle in the settings! too many times do we press shuffle to turn it off and it switches to smart shuffle. also, sometimes when you click the shuffle button it will turn off shuffle and sometimes it will change to smart shuffle. why is it not consistent?

I **bleep**ING HATE SMART SHUFFLE

xSlothicus

I literally despise smart shuffle. When it was introduced I stopped my Spotify Account and joined Apple Music for a year because I was completely sick of it. I’ve gone back to Spotify recently (I like AM a lot, but wanted to see if Spotify had changed much since I’ve been gone). I genuinely cannot believe this stupid feature is still forced on you. It doesn’t even work properly. I hate, HATE Smart Shuffle. Give me the option to turn it off, or at least change it so it’s separate from my normal shuffle button. Idiotic app development.

zuteua

I swear when it was very new - there was a fukkin option to turn it off. Why why why force this "feature"...

MrZander

If I wanted to discover new music, I would use one of the many other ways Spotify already has to do this.  Discover Weekly, Artist/Genre Radios, etc.

Not only do I not want to use it, but it actively hinders the user experience:

1.) It is stupid slow.  Toggling shuffle on/off should not take several seconds.

2.) It is buggy and will frequently re-enable itself if I tap faster than it loads.

Please let us disable this awful feature or AT LEAST make it its own toggle separate from the normal shuffle.

My Question or Issue

Is there a way to permanently turn off smart shuffle. This thing is a bother and has just added unnecessary clicks to everything. Since it adoption, there hasn't been 1 day in which I have used it. There should be a profile setting to completely turn it off.

Not only this but sometimes on Mobile when pressing shuffle and then going underground for train service and your phone reconnects to the internet it defaults the shuffle to smart because on the first press its smart shuffle, however because you lose network it puts regular shuffle and then renables smart shuffle without you knowing when you reconnect to network.

This is frustrating, and we should have gotten an option to either turn this off or not be part of it. If not, make it hard to press for the option to appear rather than now pressing twice.

Also, tracking songs is a pain now. The fact that I add a song, and it always defaults to my liked songs, it is annoying as **bleep**. I then have to repress and move to the right playlist. I see random check marks for songs that are saved, but they are saved in another playlist. I don't want to see a checkmark for songs I have in other playlist, I want to see them if they are in my Liked songs. It's confusing and the quality of service on this app has degraded like crazy.

This is a music listening service, not social media for music. People just want a simple music player, not all of these forced updates that no one asked or voted for. Your betas suck too, you force apply an update and then because certain people don't take the time to complain and give feedback ya assume that it's a positive change. How about ya poll ya testers and stop all the social media aspect of this service as people are using it for music purposes.

Is this a joke? @Luan, the status is changes to Live Ideas and “will be reviewed once it gets enough votes “. If I am not mistaken, I see 112 pages of comments here with thousands of likes and probably more in other threads. Many people (like me) gave up and use other services until “smart” shuffle is gone. I won’t pay for such “UX” !

There is SO MANY votes and comments. Spotify how have you not accepted this issue a MAJOR issue that needs to be fixed ASAP. It is 100% ruining my experience and making me close to cancelling premium.

Listen to your customers FFS.

Dear Mod Luan, on a related thread, Spotify Star: AdamDamon, has a good, positive vibe, but their post has been misleadingly labelled as 'A Solution'. This flaw in Spotify''s app is still, VERY MUCH, a pain in the **bleep** to navigate around. 'Smart Shuffle' is a mistake Spotify has long ignored, far too long, in my opinion, and their post does nothing but serve as a palliative, a possible feelgood string of words, but adds literally nothing to what is already here. I'd like to encourage you to harness your Mod Powers, energy and efforts to find an engineer or product manager or even you to get an ACTUAL response to what they're gonna do and when. Thank you.
