Just imagine a situation:

You are sitting in the bus. And listening to your favourite music on headphones. When you notice a cute person who is sitting in the bus too, and really enjoying the music, while shaking head with the beat. So curious.. WHAT SHE/HE IS LISTENING TO?!
How to know that? You take your phone from your pocket and open spotify app. There you see everyperson in 50m radius who is using Spotify and shares their music. And you see that she is listening for A-HA - TAKE ON MEE!. You connect to her music and listen to this song also. And when the bus stops, you leave it and say to her/him: ARE YOU PLANNING TO GO TO A-HA CONCERT THIS SUMMER? I LOVE THIS SONG TOO.
And you live happily ever after ❤️

So, the thing is : a possibility to look for surrounding spotify users and see what they are listening. A possibility to connect to their song. A possibility to turn ON or turn OFF music sharing (maybe you would like a private moment, and dont want to see everyone listening for your "shame songs" haha!

I personally really really often pass a person with headphones and am very very curious, what they are listening to that moment.

Ah yes, as tech progresses so will humanity's ways to connect, huh. Tis' some pretty epic sh idea 🙂
I just hope it is tweaked to ensure we are maintaining the same amount of privacy as before. But as far as the person who came up with this idea clarified, I don't think it'll cause any breach in the first place.

Very interesting idea! I would usually be very happy to share what I'm listening to to any people in bluetooth range as long as I'm not personally identifiable (except by intentional triangulation but that's an edge case I could care less about), and it would be a very fun way of discovering what people are listening to.

The name "Eavesdropping", while playful, is still kind of horrible with its negative connotations and connection to breaching privacy. It would be better to be called something like "Crowd Sharing" to emphasize the user is intentionally sharing to the people around them.

I think it would be cool if there is option to enable location and see if there are any people near you that listen to the same artists as you. Think that would help a lot with connecting people with same interests.

I came up with this idea a few years ago when I was on bus and met a girl, she weared a headset and I wondered what she was listening to.

We already have a function of 'group session' which is a good start. It would be great to add a function to be able to connect to someone who you actually don't know by sending a request (is this feature is ON on this person's device). Use-case:

1. You see one, who is listening to smt.

2. You open a window in Spotify, searching for people "around you"

3. Trying to connect to this person with his allowance.

We can add some interesting functions, like "listen carefully" or smt like that. For example, each of us have a song, and the moment in this song that we love most. And if we want to show this moment to another person - we can click a button and it will send kind of reminder (short vibration maybe) to other device.

No chat, nothing else, just music, just sharing. Hope this will make you step up from your rivals ❤️

Hi so this is the idea when i was walking in the park, i was thinking about what did person running in front of me was listening to. if they did listen to my genre i might can running to them and talk with them in the same music taste. So want the feature that you can spot person around us like gps around us only not too far away, Just only near person. You can design like the google map and pop-up the person profile pic and now playing something like this. if they do care about privacy then make up the setting for them to open this feature on and off or just make this feature online when you're going to this feature page only. Sorry for my broken English. Please consider my request. Thank you !

Hello!! My idea is to have an option where people in a nearby proximity can see if others  in the same area are listening to the same song/artist/genre. Of course, they can opt in or out to allow the proximity so it wouldn’t be an invasion of privacy. I think it would be a cool and fun idea to make friends, especially in the gym. Music is an easy and fun way for people to connect. For example, I love going to concerts because we are there for the same reason, making it easier to communicate. I think music proximity would be a great way to bring the community together.
