Turn the Lock Screen iOS widget back to how it was before the recent update

The new Lock Screen iOS widget, which plays a random song in a random playlist in your recently played playlist is quite annoying for a lot of people, including myself, as most people like to have a certain playlist playing and sometimes certain songs. The new widget mixes up the pre existing queue as well. The overall idea of the widget is nice for the people who want it, but for most people, it just opening the app was good enough and saved lots of time. It would be nice if the the new widget was turned back to how it was before, or even just add the old widget alongside the new one.

On my IPhone Lock Screen there is a Spotify widget. This widget usually allowed me to quickly access my Spotify app from the Lock Screen which was very handy. However, this feature has seemed to be completely removed, and now the widget is practically useless. Now all the widget does is set and pause a random song from my playlists. I hope that this change will be reverted back to it original state, in order to make a more positive experience.

I couldn’t agree more with this comment! I’ve never, EVER wanted the app to choose a random song for me and absolutely don’t want it doing it now.  I just want to open the app and then decide what to listen to once it’s open. My usage of Spotify is not just music and I often listen to podcasts and audiobooks, so defaulting to playing a random song is utterly pointless for me. 

At least give us the option to choose which version of the widget to use! I won’t be using it until it changes. Very disappointed and frustrated with this change. 👎🏻

I used to use it every day and now I've delete it from my home screen. I thought it was a bug at first lol. I hope they at least make the old one availiable as a second option. Plenty of other apps have different widgets with different functionalities.

Wholeheartedly agree. I can’t think of a time I would want Spotify to play just literally anything at all. It makes more sense to have it as a shortcut to the app so I can select the playlist I want

I agree, this new widget update is supper annoying and has turned the original purpose of the widget (to open spotify quick and easy) functionless. Why would you do this Spotify? I'm pretty sure you would've done some testing beforehand right?
