Bad experience with Spotify Connect on a Pioneer VSX-S510-K

I've had my hands on a Pioneer receiver with Spotify Connect for a few days and unfortunately the experience is everything but great. I hope this is of use to potential buyers or maybe someone can tell me how to get a better experience.

 

The first unit I had received had a defect, it was promptly swapped for a new one. Great service from the place I bought it. The next unit appears to work properly however, when using Spotify Connect I experience the following difficulties:

 

  1. Frequently the tracks in a playlist fade into each other abruptly, terminating at about 3 seconds before the actual end of the track.
  2. Frequently the unit doesn't come out of network standby when starting a Spottify Connect playlist from an iOS device. Even more mysterious is the fact this always works reliable for AirPlay.
  3. Sometimes the unit doesn't respond to skip previous/next commands from the remote control.
  4. I was disappointed that no currently playing track information can be seen on the display. This information is only visible on the TV screen or in the app. Are there similar small receivers that do provide this feature?

It's weird, I don't get these issues with my Pioneer A1 (but that is a more basic speaker). It does sound more like a firmware issue on the speaker rather than the actual Spotify Connect handover - is there any firmware updates available for your unit?

It came loaded with the most recent firmware which is almost a year old. It seems unlikely to me that there will be more updates coming for this unit,  unless perhaps someone can say for a fact that the things I am experiencing are bugs. 

I've kept trying for a few more days and then returned this unit too due to it not performing as advertised. Pitty.

I can confirm it works a lot better on the VSX-924. It does wake up from standby reliably and it does show track information on the VFD. As for the VSX-S510, it still is a nice small AVR and given its price and features i decided to keep it.
