Blue dot on What's new bell not going away

On desktop, the blue dot on the notification bell is always there. I click on it, and I have no new updates, so I go back. Five minutes later it's back, and still no new updates. What's going on?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the app or logging out and back in a couple of times?

It would also be useful to check if this happens on your device with the account of a friend or a family member.
