My Question or Issue
Since about 2 days ago I can't play any music on my WIN10 PC or my Android phone, but on my iOS Tablet everything works. I've tried on mobile data only and it's the same problem, so my home network isn't the issue (likely). Everything has the newest updates.
Windows only description now:
When I start Spotify everything is black for 1-2mins, eventually my default page loads. I can see my usual playlists or whatever Spotify suggests. I can't view any playlists, it takes 1-2mins again to tell me the playlists can't be found. When i click play (on any present playlist) from the default page nothing ever happens.
I've done all troubleshooting stuff i could find, nothing helped
- restart with hardware acceleration turned off
- clean appdata folders & fresh install
- no blocked domains in my hosts file
The "support" on the home page is testing my sanity, these people don't read what im writing and just suggest stuff I've already tried
I kept answering to the multiple support people their chat has thrown at me and at last I got somebody technical who actually read my answers. In the end all I had to was restart my router, I ruled this basic step out because of iOS working. Shame on me. Leaving this up for other frustrated people looking for solutions.
The problem is back and a restart doesn't solve it. This is beyond annoying, any suggestions?
Always flushed DNS Cache before a reboot. I got a PiHole running but didn't do any updates until the problems started. So not sure on possible DNS problems.
iOS is still working flawless
Hey @zahdok,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
Kudos for all the troubleshooting you've tried so far! We really appreciate the time you took to let us know about all this info. Since you mentioned you're using Pi-hole and that you notice issues with the performance of Spotify on both your computer and your Android phone, we'd suggest switching Pi-Hole off to see if you notice changes.
If perhaps you're using any other services such as a VPN, it's worth mentioning Spotify doesn't officially support it. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior. We recommend setting up Spotify as an exception in that case.
Lastly, it's always good practice to make sure the app is up-to-date on the affected devices. Give these a try and let us know how it goes.
Keep us in the loop!
Hey @AlejaR, I'm not using any VPN in my connection. Turning PiHole off sadly didn't do anything different, I've also tried Google & Cloudflares DNS services and I'm not seeing a change in behaviour.
I've looked at my network traffic and DNS seems to be working fine. However I'm getting a lot TCP Retransmissions, so no suprise I can't use the service. I've disabled every possible firewall but it didn't help. Something is getting blocked and I don't know what could've caused this. I didn't tamper with anything and everything besides Spotify is working as expected.
What makes me suspicious is this: Sometimes I can play some songs for exactly 5 seconds, but I didn't get into the pattern to force this yet. Found this when I let the application running for some time without interacting. So my connection is working. My gut says that my end isn't the problem here.
Hey @zahdok,
Thanks for your replies and for all the info shared.
We're at a point where the issue seems to be isolated, and we can't replicate these specific circumstances. In that sense, we can't guarantee this will be fixed soon.
We understand this is not ideal, but we'd suggest using the web player in the meantime. Additionally, we'd suggest keeping your app and devices up-to-date, so you don't miss out on any developments.
We'll be here if anything else comes up.
Whatever got updated, it's working now!
Webplayer was broken too btw, I just forgot to list it here.
Can i get some info if this would be fixable by a user or was that just an unfortunate hiccup on spotifys side?
Awesome @zahdok! I'm glad everything's okay now 👍
It's tough to say. There haven't been any outages during this period, so the issue could have been isolated to your particular network setup. You can monitor Spotify's status at https://x.com/SpotifyStatus.
In any case, feel free to reach out anytime if there's anything we can assist with!
Cheers 🤘
