Connect on Yamaha RX-V475 works fine with old Facebook account but not with new premium account

Solved!

Connect on Yamaha RX-V475 works fine with old Facebook account but not with new premium account

Hi everybody,

I have recently moved from an old Facebook tied account to a new account and upgraded to premium straight away. Now I have 2 Spotify Family accounts, one for myself and one for my wife.

I have a Yamaha RX-V475 in the living room hardwired to my LAN which has been working like a breeze from the beginning with my old account (and still does!). But I can't get it to show in the list of available devices for Spotify Connect. All devices are of course in the same (wireless) LAN as they have always been.

All Android devices are visible to each other provided the app is running and the device isn't sleeping. But none of them is able to access the Yamaha.

What I've tried so far:

  • Update and reset the Yamaha receiver
  • Deleting cache and data from the Android App on both my Nexus 10 tablet and my OnePlus One smartphone
  • Uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app on both devices
  • Log-in with my old account and the Yamaha shows up straight away
  • Check whether the Android apps have my new account listed as premium (I can only check on the website. The app doesn't tell the account status)

Do you guys have any idea what I can do to make my Yamaha receiver accessible again?

Kind regards,

Matt

Here's an update!

I managed to solve this by reverting my Yamaha receiver to factory settings! Took me about an hour to restore all my original speaker and HDMI settings but now I am able to use Connect from my new account.

Just as a little side note. I am now able to connect to the receiver from my account but if I use my wife's Tablet with her account the Yamaha is invisible just as before.

So I presume the Yamaha does store some kind of account info... although I can't see anything in its config.

I hope this helps...

Cheers,

Matt

Hello Spotify,

is there anyone home? I'd like to use the full service I pay for... So please advise me!

Kind regards,

Matt

Just to let you know, same issue here with my receiver (also RX-V475).

I think it worked fine until the end of last year, then the problems started. I tried several things, resetting all devices, disabling firewall, using a test account provided by the spotify support and I even changed the router. When I switch to Spotify mode manually on my receiver it will show "Access error" on the display.

Yamaha directed me to the Spotify support, they didn't have an answer. Last email today was that my device is not officially supported. What a shame if you consider that it is advertised to be Spotify compatible by Yamaha.

So, apparently there is no solution to this problem so far...

Hi,

thanks for your feedback... It's good to know that you're not alone... But sorry Spotify: saying that the RX-V475 is not a supported device is plain horse **bleep**... That receiver has a Spotify connect sticker on the front and works like a breeze with my old account... Yes, it still works like it has always done. But not with my new account...

It seems I have to reactivate my facebook account... 😕

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt,

please let me know if this is a permanent solution for you.

What I experienced is that when I reset the receiver Spotify connect worked fine right afterwards but the problem surfaced the next day or so.

You also reset the receiver by pressing the "straight" button while turning it on, then going to "init all" or something, right?

Thanks!
Fabian

Hi Fabian,

I will mate... I hope I don't have to go through all that again... Actually, it worked beautifully for many months with my old account.

So I'm confident, this'll last. I only have to figure out a way to make my wife's account see the Yamaha, too!

And yes, that's the reset key combination. Hold down straight and power on to enter Advanced Setup where you can select Init... ALL

But be careful, you lose everything that way (sound setting, HDMI settings, scenes - the lot!).

Kind regards,

Matt
