External cache and file size

Solved!

External cache and file size

Hi,

I have only just gotten spotify Premium and I would like to say it is well worth the $12/month.

I have resently learnt that if you don't have more space on your sd card then your internal storage spotify cache will save to the most unfilled area. So I am going to do a delete of the cached data and I was just wondering if doing so would clear all of my saved music?

Also, I changed my download quality from High to Extreme and I was just wondering what the size difference between the two are? I understand Extreme uses more space but how much more?

Please help.

Hey @declxn,

Saved playlists with songs in them won't be removed from your account when you clear your cache. But if you actually delete a playlist yourself on accident, you can recover them here.

As for the size, Spotify uses 3 quality ratings for streaming, all in the Ogg Vorbis format.

  • ~96 kbps
    • Normal quality on mobile.
  • ~160 kbps
    • Desktop and web player standard quality.
    • High quality on mobile.
  • ~320 kbps (only available to Premium subscribers)
    • Desktop high quality.
    • Extreme quality on mobile.

The sizes corresponding with those rates are:

Quality 96 kbps => 0.72 MB per minute. (Only in Mobile these days)
Quality 160 kbps => 1.2 MB per minute. (Free, Unlimited, Premium)
Quality 320 kbps => 2.4 MB per minute. (Premium. Desktop, some mobile platforms and some other Spotify devices)
