Firefox is getting blocked - Spotify can't play this right now

Solved!

Firefox is getting blocked - Spotify can't play this right now

I'm unable to play any tracks using the web player (open.spotify.com). I get the message "Spotify can't play this right now" and it starts skipping tracks. Some tracks start playing for 9 seconds and then stop. The browser console shows that requests to https://gew4-spclient.spotify.com/widevine-license/v1/audio/license fail with the error code 403.

This only happens when using Firefox, it works fine in Chrome and in the Windows client. It happens on multiple devices in my home. I've tried using a clean profile in Firefox with the same result and I'm not blocking any requests.

Yesterday, it started working for a few hours without changing anything and now it started happening again.

It's working again without any changes on my side, at least for now. Thank you for trying to help me, I'll post an update if the problem starts again.

In case it helps with debugging: It must have started during the last week as I was listening on September 6 without any problems and never had this issue before. Could have been a Firefox update as the beta version gets frequently updated in the background, but not sure. No VPNs involved, current developer/beta version of Firefox with a clean profile and an empty cache. Didn't happen in the desktop app. I experienced it with Firefox on different devices running Windows 10 and Android.

Hey there @nulldivisor,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

Since you mentioned this is only happening when using Firefox, this could be directly related to that specific browser. In that sense, we'd recommend:

  • Making sure the browser is up-to-date.
  • Clearing the cache of the browser to see if you notice any difference. You can follow these steps

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather further info. Please send us:

  • Do you use a VPN service? If yes, try switching it off. Keep in mind Spotify doesn't officially support VPN. This means that issues with the app while using VPN are expected behavior.
  • Would you mind sending us more info about the devices on which this is happening? The make/model and OS would help us.
  • Does this happen when using the desktop app?
  • We'd like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update.

Keep us in the loop!

My Question or Issue

Tried to listen to my playlist this morning and kept having the songs all skip up until the ads. I kept getting the 'Spotify can't play this' message. The playlist worked fine last night and the only change s daylight savings time. I've cleared the cache, ran spotify in private/incognito mode and still the same. Was it the time change?

It seems to be a Firefox issue because I can listen normally on Brave browser. Nothing has changed on Firefox that I know of.

Bump. Having the same issue.

Congrats on your 'fix' from over a month ago but my problem that started happening 2 days ago STILL exists and shouldn't be put in a thread marked 'Solved'. Oh by the way Spotify you can stop sending me 'deals' to subscribe as since this is how you handle things I will NEVER pay for your service.
