Google Home Mini not syncing with Spotify Premium

My Question or Issue

I am trying to set up my 1st gen Google Home mini. When I open the Google home app the app prompts me to link my Google home app to my Spotify account. When I click through I'm taken to Spotify where a check mark shows up and that's it. When I go back to my Google home app, my accounts are still not linked. There's nothing to disconnect within the Google home app since my account was never linked to Spotify to begin with. I'm not sure how to fix this.
