How to Block Followers on Last.fm

How to Block Followers on Last.fm

Hi all,

Just yesterday I learned how to remove followers on Last.fm, and I thought I’d share here on the Spotify Community in case there are other Last.fm users with annoying followers:

  • Log in to Last.fm and navigate to “Settings”
  • Select “Privacy”
  • Scroll down to “Ignore List,” and type in or copy and paste the username of the profile that you wish not to follow you. Click "Add to List," and then repeat for any additional followers that you wish to remove from your profile.

Now if you go to your list of Followers, the users that you put on your “Ignore List” will be gone. They also can no longer send you messages.

Do people spam there? I've never had that problem.

Hi osornios,

That's good to hear. While I haven’t yet had any spam messages or Shouts from other users on Last.fm, I did have six followers in the recent months who seemingly followed me for no reason other than to advertise their personal website, usually a Russian (.ru) website; I’m not sure if these profiles are genuine people, or are bots, but after a while I thought it was annoying enough that I tried to figure out how to make them go away. Usually if I don’t know someone who follows me on Last.fm (either in person, from the Spotify Community, or from the Neighbors section on Last.fm), and they don’t have high musical compatibility with me, then I wonder how they even found my Last.fm profile in the first place, and I don’t want them to be following me – especially if they have just a few scrobbles and it seems like they’re trying to advertise a website that I have no interest in. So to answer your question, I’m not sure if these aforementioned followers that I had recently are considered spam; I just didn’t want them to be following me on my Last.fm profile.

Interesting. I'll check my profile to see if I have any of those strange followers.

Nice tip. 🙂

Hey @AdamDamon

I also have a handful of these users with russian porn sites in their profile description.

It turns out that those users have been somewhat tampered with - the true owners can't change that description to remove the website, and I'm pretty sure they're made to follow other profiles as well.

It's a good thing people can remove those followers as many are not fine with seeing such sites. Those affected users can also reach out to the last.fm support, their team should be able to help them.

Have a nice day 🙂

Thanks for this tip! I must have overlooked this setting. Just removed some spam followers from my list.

These are all old hacked accounts from a data breach in 2012, and the users did not change their passwords since then. The spam bots post a **bleep** link in their About Me which then appears on all followed user overviews. That is why the spammer script also adds several hundred to 1k new followed users automatically to the hacked account in order to spread the link across the site.

Last.fm has cleaned those profiles several times in the past, but there are still accounts which slipped through or were hacked again, so reporting them to staff is a good idea. There also is a related support forum thread at the moment.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I have like six spams in my inbox since 2015, shows how often I've logged in heh.

Two from a "young Russian hip hop producer" who "wants to be friends". One from someone promoting an Alternative band. Three from different accounts, all promoting some "Gothic and Metal" forum.

@user-removed

I've also had these Gothic & Metal forum spam-mails, a long time ago.

Check out this FAQ on what you can do about that. 🙂

You can also add the user(s) into your Ignore-list which lies in your Settings -> Privacy.

I don't generally mind the band promoters. I've replied to them and they're often happy to hear feedback.. But that's up to you 🙂

Have a nice day and stay safe!

I've received those gothic & metal messages too, hahaha.
