I cannot connect to Facebook because the option does not exist

I cannot connect to Facebook because the option does not exist

Premium, United States, Spotify version 8.6.94.351 // iPhone 8, OS 15.1 (19B74) // Mac OS Big Sur Version 11.5.2 // Google Chrome 97.0.4692.71 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Here is what Spotify says:

(1) Connect your Spotify account to Facebook
Note: You can only connect your Spotify account to Facebook using the desktop app.

(2) In the desktop app, click [down arrow] and select Settings.

(3) Under Social, click CONNECT WITH FACEBOOK.
Enter your Facebook login details and click Log In.

I would love to do that, except that under Social, there is no "CONNECT WITH FACEBOOK" either on desktop, browser, or mobile. There is also no visible option to connect to either a Google account or an Apple account, either.

Right now I cannot link to anything and have been frustrated for a couple hours to the point where I'm thinking I probably just have to create an entirely new account to connect socials or alternate logins.

Hi there @give2homelessppl,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If the issue persists, can you have someone else log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member to see if there's any change? This will help us understand if it's account related or not.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Can confirm that clean install did NOT fix the problem for me.

Hi @Corralyn,

Thanks for posting on the Community.

In this case, we recommend that you try logging in with the button "Continue with Facebook" in order to make sure you haven't linked your account to Spotify yet. If you have more than one Facebook profile, we suggest logging in with all of them.

If this doesn't work, could you send us the make/model, OS version and Spotify version installed on your device? Also, keep in mind you can only connect Spotify to Facebook through the Desktop app.

On another note, tell us if this happens when logging in with a different device (PC/laptop) and send us over a screenshot of the options you see when accessing to the app Settings (Settings > Social).

Keep us in the loop.

I was not able to solve this issue at all, but I have since deleted Facebook permanently anyway, so I honestly don't care anymore.

I have the same problem, reinstalling didn't fix it

same problem, reinstalling windows does not solve problem also.

Same problem. Tried all above, nothing helps.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your posts.

Can you try going into Settings > Social > Connect with Facebook on the Desktop app. This option is currently not available on mobile.

Let us know if that works.

Hey @Skweez,

Is your account by any chance created with Facebook?
Mine is, I use Windows and the option isn't there for me too.
If this is the case with you as well - the accounts are linked but the option to link them won't show.
Seems to be this way by design.

Hi. Yes I did. Many years ago. So how do I unlink this or change it?
It’s very frustrating.

Thank you for your reply.

Hey @Skweez,

As detaching Facebook from a Facebook-created Spotify account can be a bit tricky, creating a new account and transferring your data is the most sure-fire way to go about things.
You can do so by following this guide or with the help of support.

As this is a bit tedious though, we can try two more things and go for a new account in case they don't work or create some issues along the way:

  1. If you can currently only log in via Facebook and your email is active, set a password for Spotify
  2. Go to Facebook -> Settings -> Security -> Apps & websites -> find Spotify and click Remove

Alternatively or if this doesn't do the trick, reach out to our support folks and let them know you wish to unlink the two accounts.

We're here for you if any questions arise 🙂

This is what worked for me. Log out of Spotify, then login using Facebook instead of your email address. Connecting to facebook contacts will then be available.

That option, as mentioned above, does not exist.

Hey @MoeMcLendon,

We've made some changes to the app since, so now you can add Facebook as a login method from your account page. Once added, you can use Facebook to log in to your Spotify account.

Cheers 🤘
