Limitation in playlist in Apple Watch

Limitation in playlist in Apple Watch

I wonder why there is a limitation for just 100 songs per playlist in Apple watches?

Hey @marabr,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome. We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the ideas section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

On your Apple Watch, you can download up to 10 hours (depending on your model) of music and podcasts to enjoy it without an internet connection, but keep in mind that there's a limitation for up to 100 downloads per playlist.

This limitation is based on different factors such as the device memory and its storage capacity taking into account that this is not the full app, but a simplified version of it. If you want to download more content than that, we'd recommend using the Spotify app on your phone or desktop since you can download as many as 10,000 tracks on each of up to 5 different devices.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Hey @OscarDC !

So is it "up to 10 hours" as you mention or is it "at least 10 hours" of download as per the official statement of spotify: https://support.spotify.com/uk/article/spotify-on-apple-watch/

I think this should be cleared, because my Apple Watch app starts randomly deleting music once I have several playlists downloaded (non of them are above the 100 songs limits, but above the 10 hrs threshold - whatever that means-).

Hey @L92,

Thank you for your reply in this thread and apologies for any confusion created on our end.

You can download at least 10 hours of music and podcasts to Apple Watch that you can listen without the internet. This means that if you playlist's duration exceeds this 10 hour limit, then what you've been experiencing is expected behavior.

Hope this helps clarify things. Take care 🙂

Hey @Lyubka

I see. But at least means at the minimum. If the the app missfunctions above 10hrs (which it does), it should be written up to or at maximum 10hrs. Because now the official statement is false. And many threads are created because users are confused why they are experiencing this behaviour on the Apple Watch.

Why is there a 100 song playlist limit? I just got my apple watch and found this out and am immediately returning it now

May be the limitations in memory applied before, my apple watch ultra has 64g of memory i can fit more that 100 measly songs, please help us to increase that limit, let the storage capacity limit the download, not you (spotify) its not fair that im paying for a premium service and i get a sub optimal service

Second that. Watches nowadays have much more memory than 10 years ago. I could upload more songs on my mp3 player back in a day.

At least give an option to customize that limit by ourselves.

That’s what Spotify may want, return all the Apple devices and use non-apple devices instead.

This is not a solution. This is a vague response which doesn't solve anything. Spotify needs to either A: Give us real answers that make sense when they blame Apple or B: actually solve the problems and give us a full experience. The whole Spotify app on apple watch is so buggy that it's made me consider cancelling spotify and switching to Apple Music ever since I bought my watch. Spotify should take note of this. I've been a pro member for over a decade. There's lots of other people like me. They used to be the best, now they've found themselves in the shitty position of being lazy which leaves them vulnerable to disruption.

Hey @OscarDC,

thanks for the reply. I understand that it is what it is right now, but maybe you can pass this on as feedback to the product team:

The download limit of 100 songs per playlist is aggravating and non-sensical: If I can download up to 100 songs per playlist for multiple playlists, then there is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be able to download more than 100 songs for a single playlist. In case Apple imposes some sort of absolute storage limit on third-party Apple Watch apps (which I wouldn't know they do, but just in case), then it would be much more convenient for users if you instead limited the total number of songs that can be downloaded, e.g. 1000 (or whatever number) songs in total rather than 100 per playlist.

100 per playlist is clearly an arbitrary and super dumb limitation.

Agree with others above, @Oskar —

what you gave is basically a non-answer, the 100 song limit is frustratingly arbitrary and should be removed or at least raised, please!

I don’t get this either. Obviously there is a limit to storage on the watch, but 100 per playlist is totally arbitrary. It’s even MORE frustrating that I used to be able to download hundreds of songs per playlist with the Spotify app on my Garmin watch (limited purely by watch storage) yet I can’t do the same on my Apple Watch now even though I have plenty of storage space.
