Listening on multiple devices

Listening on multiple devices

I listen to Spotify on 2 phones and my computer, 3 devices. My home page categories "your top mixes," "jump back in," etc etc are different on each device. I use the same Spotify login and, if it makes a difference, use the same Apple ID on each device. This is very frustrating.

Hey there @gsusser,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your post out of the Music chat section to one of our Help boards as it fits better here.

The playlists you can find on Your top mixes are personalized for you based on your existing listening habits. The Jump back in section shows you some playlists/content you listened to some time ago on that account and that you might want to revisit. That being said, from what you kindly mentioned, it seems you've logged in to different accounts.

We'd recommend you make sure you logged in to the same account on your 3 devices. On your mobile phones, you can follow these steps:

  • Tap the picture profile at the top-right of the screen.
  • Go to Settings and privacy.
  • At the top, tap Account. There you can find your username and the email linked to your account (if any).

On the desktop app:

  • Click over the picture profile at the top-right of the screen.
  • Click over Account.
  • You will be redirected to your account page.
  • From there, click on Edit profile. There you can find your username and the email linked to your account (if any).

Keep in mind there are a few ways to sign up, e.g. with email, phone number, Facebook, Apple, or Google. Since you mentioned you logged in with an Apple ID, it's possible you have multiple accounts, one that is linked to Apple, and others that are not.

Keep us in the loop!

I'm not sure where to look on the Help board to find this and respond, so here goes.

First, thanks for responding. However, as I indicated in another message right after I posted this one, I only have one Spotify account. I was posting in regard to using 3 devices to listen to Spotify and getting completely different playlists on each device even though I logged in using the same account and same Apple ID.

From what I gather from your response and reading elsewhere, Spotify is not programmed (if that's the right word) to play new songs based on playlists or listening habits or likes.

Hey there, @gsusser,

Thanks for confirming.

Keep in mind that the sections (and their contents) may appear in a different order across your devices as the Home page updates throughout the day. Some sections might even be exclusive for a specific device.

As for your other question, Spotify takes notes of what you listen to and how you listen to it, and bases its recommendations on that. There are numerous methods which you can use to discover new music on Spotify, here are a few of them:

Spoiler
  • Smart Shuffle
  • AI DJ
  • Spotify Radio
  • Autoplay

  • Spotify Mixes and other personalized playlists found under the Made for You section in Search

  • Suggested content at the bottom of the Home page

  • "Discover something new" section in Search (mobile)

  • "Similar to" section in the Now Playing View (mobile)

  • "Add to this playlist" feature (mobile)

  • "Recommended" section at the bottom of your playlists

It's also worth using outside sources such as reviews, blogs, forums, etc. as they too can serve as a very useful tool of discovering new music. We do music blogs on the Community as well, feel free to check them out if you're interested.

Hope this clears things up. Cheers 🤘
