New MS Edge Chromium supports Spotify web player and Web Scrobbler Chrome extension for Last.fm

New MS Edge Chromium supports Spotify web player and Web Scrobbler Chrome extension for Last.fm

The stable Microsoft Edge Chromium browser was released on Jan 15th, 2020 for Windows 7-10, macOS, iOS and Android. It is available either as part of the monthly Windows Update or separately from this Microsoft page. It works fine with the Spotify web player and for the first time with the Web Scrobbler browser extension for Last.fm which is also available for Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi and Firefox.

This means that you can now use the extra features of Web Scrobbler like editing the current scrobble during the first 50% of its track length and saving it for future plays of the same song. This is not possible with the Last.fm feature for Spotify scrobbliing yet, you can only edit past scrobbles in your Last.fm library if you are a Pro user. So if there are wrong or unwanted artist/album/track names in the Spotify catalogue, you can prevent them from being scrobbled this way and correct them beforehand.

Furthermore this method is independent from the official Last.fm feature and may still work when the former is broken and/or lags for some reason. Enabling both scrobbling methods will lead to duplicate scrobbles though.

Here is a screenshot of the Spotify web player in Edge Chromium on Windows 10 with the Web Scrobbler extension:
