My Question or Issue
So let's say I have 50 songs in queue. I listen 20 of them, then my computer crashes. I would expect to see in my queue remaining 30, but I see the same 50. So it seems that Spotify saves queue progress only when I close spotify?
Not a big issue, sort of annoying. I tend to have long queues, and rarely turn off my work computer (or spotify).
Hey @jussist,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
Does the PC crash because of the Spotify app or due to another reason?
Also keep in mind that we don't officially support the app on Linux, it is just a love child of our developers and issues with it can come and go more often than usual.
If it is the app doing the PC crash, it'd be best to take your question to the relevant Linux board in our Community.
Hope this clears things a bit,
Cheers!
I have the same irritation on Windows 10 with the desktop app but also when quitting and restarting the app or rebooting. This happens on three different computers.
Hi there @Bruxism,
Thanks for the post.
Can you try logging in with a different account to try if the queue resets itself like that? You can ask a friend/ family member to log in with theirs or create a free account for test purposes. This is a good way to test if the issue is account related, since it's happening on a few different devices to you.
Keep us posted.
Hi Alex,
I have tried with a different account, with the same result: listen to a few songs then close the app; reopen and the play queue is back to the first song.
Hey there @Bruxism,
Thanks for the reply and for going through this troubleshooting with us.
In order to investigate this further, can you record a short video where we can see your queue populated with songs, restart the app and check if the queue retains them. You can add the video as an attachment to your reply or a link to YouTube.
Please also include your current Spotify app version.
Cheers.
Hi Alex,
Looking further into this, I have found that it only happens when playing from a folder rather than a single playlist. Is it possible that such behaviour is expected?
Hey @Bruxism,
Thanks for your reply 🙂
In this case, we couldn't replicate this behavior from our side, so, it'd be great if you send us a video recording of it. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.
On another note, would you mind sending us the exact Spotify version you have currently running?
Lastly, did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.
Keep us in the loop!
Hi Aleja,
Thanks for your help. As requested, I have taken a video show the behaviour. This problem has been ongoing for several years and is unaffected by any system upgrades. The video was taken on a brand new computer running Windows 11.

Hey @Bruxism,
Thanks for getting back to us with a video of your issue. This indeed helped us understand it better. We also appreciate all the efforts that you put into that and all the troubleshooting you've tried.
We've managed to take a deep look into that and test this internally. With that being said, we came to conclusion that resetting the queue after a restart is expected when playing folders.
Hope this clear things up,
Cheers!
Thank you Lyubka,
That does explain things, but it seems a fairly odd thing to 'expect'.
