Roku3 problems with Spotify App

Roku3 problems with Spotify App

I have the problem 1 month  ago with Spotify in Roku3. Playlist stops tracks after 5 or 10 tracks plays. In other case when stops de tracks the Album Art disappears with a black image. In other, the playlist can not sound. I do not like this because this problem not exists before. I try, reinstall de app, restart Roku, desactive and active the Roku account, factory reset etc but the problem persists. If there a problem with a recent Roku3 update? or Spotify is the problem.

Hey @eddiepadre thanks for coming to the Spotify Community for help.

That's quite odd. Can you check if there are any firmware updates for your Roku device? Also, could you send us some screenshots of the error message you're receiving?

We'll see what we can suggest.

Same exact problem numerous times this past week. AND, as above, no error message. Spotify simply stops playing. I end up looking at the screen that shows me a song that will not begin playing, but is in my list, and although the screen allows me to change back or forward in the playlist to go to different songs, it makes no difference. Whatever song is selected stays at 0:00 and Spotify will not play. For 120.00/yr I expect better.

I make all as a costumer can do. Restart de Roku, uninstall de app and reinstall,

reset to factory defaults, deactive and activate my Roku account, and the situation persists. If you see the forums I am not exclusive with this situation. The problem is rare because sometimes no problems. Yesterday I buy a external memory micro card to extend 2g the memory because I have long playlists, but the situation persists. No error messages, simply not works, not play the track.I have Chromecast too and the the streaming with Spotify  works without problems.

Hey guys!

Could you give it a try with a different internet connection? Restarting your router might also help.

Let us know how you get on.

I am having these same issues on a Roku 3. I have two Roku 3s and it happens on both. Have tried with different internet connections (wired and wireless). Sometimes it will work ok, but more often that not it doesn't function properly. Often if I'm trying to play a song, particularly from a playlist, the artwork will be blank and it won't play. Other times if I'm playing a song and I try to play a different song from another album or playlist the first song will keep playing, or no song will play, even as it shows the new song supposedly playing (progress meter on the new song is progressing). Additionally, if I add songs to a playlist often they show up immediately, but if I exit the app and come back the added songs are not there. I've tried rebooting the roku and uninstalling and reinstalling the app many times. Sometimes an app uninstall/reinstall we seem to help, other times not. Very frustrating as the aggravation has caused me to not want to use it at all, and the Roku is where I do the bulk of my listening.

My problem too with Spotify in Roku3 in my case. Black Album Arts or exhibit but not playing the song, sometimes playes 5 to ten songs and stop the music, change the tracks the app change the track but nothing, freeze the music, in my case exhibits a black album art sometimes. Uninstall the app and reinstall, deactivated  my Roku Account and reactivates, etc nothing, the problem is there.  Roku or Spotify?. I see that others have the problem too. I tried with my Chromecast connection and not problems like this synthoms. Please excuse my English.

Like all of you, I've had the exact same problems with the Spotify app for Roku.

Why?

Because this app has not been updated in YEARS.

All of our posting and researching and tinkering isn't going to do a darn thing to solve our problems, because... THE PROBLEM IS THAT SPOTIFY REFUSES TO UPDATE THEIR ROKU APP.

None of these issues are going to go away until we raise enough **bleep** to get them to update their horribly out-dated Roku app. Take one look at the Spotify logo on the app and you'll see: THIS APP LITERALLY HASN'T BEEN UPDATED FOR YEARS (or however long ago Spotfy was using that old, limegreen logo).

To all the "moderators" responding here with "solutions", just stop. You know darn well that these issues aren't arrising from individual user error, they're arrising from the fact that these users are accessing Spotify through their Roku.

If you actually give two **bleep**s about helping us, PLEASE TELL YOUR BOSSES TO DEDICATE RESOURCES TO UPDATING THE **bleep** ROKU APP! Seriously, stop wasting people's time with bull**bleep** like "did you restart the app?" or "have you updated your Roku's firmware??" -- THE APP IS THE ISSUE AND YOU KNOW IT 😉

I don't know how many angry emails it's going to take, but we need to start a coordinated campaign to get Spotify to take the time to update this **bleep**ty app. They've released countless updates for Apple TV and iOS, for Chromecast and Android, and just about every other streaming platform out there, near as I can tell.

Roku, though?

Who knows WHY they won't update their Roku app, but they'll keep screwing us over until we make enough noise. It's almost impossible to get any actual customer support from Spotify (they literally do not have a phone # that you can call), but at the very least we can voice our displeasure via email.

Email SUPPORT@SPOTIFY.COM and tell them you're sick and tired of paying $120.00 USD every year for a service that refuses to update their applications. Roku is a mainstream, completely legitimate streaming platform and it's absolutely asinine that Spotify continues to neglect it.

Enough is enough. Stop blaming users when you know **bleep** well that the issue is with your dog**bleep** Roku app.

FIX IT!

Side note: How **bleep**ing sad is it that paying users have been begging for an update to the Roku app for OVER TWO YEARS?! Pretty **bleep**ing sad. The only thing sadder? The fact that they still won't do it.

Maybe we need to get a large group of Roku owners together to threaten mass cancellation...

I am having the same problem.

I have Spotify Premium on my Roku 3 and it worked fine for about a year. Then about three weeks ago it began to randomly stop after a few songs. I can see the next song's album artwork, but it doesn't play. The only way to get it going again is to exit the Spotify channel and re-start it.

I have removed the Spotify channel and re-loaded it.

I have completely re-started my Roku 3 and re-loaded all my channels.

Today is even worse: it will only play one song and then stops.

I have contacted Spotify support and they say it must be a Roku problem

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I too am having the same issue an am giong to cancel my spotify premium as it is not working on Roku which is my current system of choice for my home theater system.  I am not going to stream from my phone as that defeats the whole purpose of having a home system.  It is hard to believe that for $120 a month this is the service provided, the run around and ultimately thank you for nothing.

Respectfully,

Disapointed

Same problem here, only it won't even play anymore. I actually am headed over to cancel my Spotify Premium account, now, since the only reason I am paying for it is to listen to it through Roku.

So, Spotify, please send me an email when this problem is legitimately fixed and I will be more than happy to reinstate my account.

So I am not sure what has happened, but the last month or 2, the Spotify app on my Roku 3 has been very problematic. Can't get my Playlists to load unless I restart my Roku, and all too often, tracks will not play even though the screen displays that it should be. Somewhere, an update has really messed this up. I would hope that Spotify doesn't blame others, because it is the only app that behaves like this. If this doesn't get addressed and fixed soon, I am going to discontinue my family account. I don't care what "tips" they give. Make it work or make room for the competition.

This is exactly my problem too: This post make by another member, was post recently.  To much people have the same problem, roku or spotify...nothing.This the post:

Same problem here with my Roku.  Spotify, when are you going to stop treating your own Roku channel like an unwanted orphan!

Same problem here.  I am a new Spotify subscriber and this is pretty poor.  I use Spotify thru my Roku every morning and this happens over and over again.  I think Spotify needs to address this issue.

Same issue.  Considering cancelling my Premium and using a different music source as Roku is what I have running through my home system and there is really no point if it doesn't play.

Having exactly the same problem. Once in a blue moon, it will play a few songs, but then it goes haywire and won't play anything. No other apps on my Roku are having this problem. As others have said, the only reason I pay for premium is to play on the Roku, so I will now be cancelling my subscription.

**bleep** poor customer service, too, when the only thing you have available is a user forum.

Just started 30 day trial...I have the latest Roku... doesn't shuffle properly and it will play a couple of songs and then it will freeze like I hit "pause". I get frustrated, because I like everything else about Spotify. All other music apps on my Roku work fine. Guess I will have to go back to Amazon or keep using Pandora.

I've been having this problem for months. I've been waiting for either Roku or Spotify to upgrade. It's only getting worse. I've been thinking about switching to Amazon Fire TV to see if either Spotify works better on it, or if Amazon Music is the solution. Has anyone tried those combinations? I've also thought of buying a new Roku. But I hate to upgrade and still have the same problem. Years ago when I first got Spotify, switching from Rdio, I marveled at how fast Spotify was on the Roku 3. It was almost instant. Now it takes a long time to load, to fill in my list of playlists, and fill in the songs on the playlist.

I love listening to music via the Roku because it connects to my A/V receiver.

I have the latest Roku and when I first started Spotify, the shuffle was playing songs I just heard and I couldn't get it play on demand. It would stay on "pause". The last few times I listened, it worked fine, but the longest I listen maybe two hours or so.

I am an Amazon Prime member, so I've been trying the "Unlimited", but it doesn't work on Roku even though it has a channel. All you get is the music you have purchased. So I bought a Fire Stick and it steams all music from Amazon. I plug it into my AV receiver and it works fine and, Amazon Unlimited is cheaper than Spotify for Prime members. Hope this helps.
