Spotify friends connect/find without facebook

I used to have facebook so I did manage to add someone to my spotify friends list.

Now I don't have facebook and am not allowed to go on social media (or my wife will go psycho & throw a tantrum and send me spiraling to no mans land). Anyway, I have friends who have shared me their playlist. Why can't we just add friends via this way too?

Currently it seems Spotify insists we use facebook and no other way to connect with spotify friends.

PS: I wanted to post this suggestion to the other category.. but seems I can't create topics there?

Thank you for posting your question on the Community.

Even if you don't have Facebook, you should be able to add other users as friends in Spotify. 

This article explains how you can search for your friends. After you open the profile you want to add, just click/tap on the Follow button under the profile picture.
