Spotify skips local files

Spotify skips local files

And the worst thing is that I can't add these songs to my playlist even having them on my device (local files). Spotify just skips them as if they don't even exist. How come?

Hey @nuttines666,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We hope you don't mind us moving your reply, as it fits better here in a new thread since you mentioned a different inconvenience.

That being said, we'd like to gather some additional info. Just to confirm, are you able to add your local files to the app, but they're skipped? Or are you unable to see them at all? It'd be awesome if you could clarify exactly what is happening on your side. Please send us as many details as possible.

Make sure the Show audio files from this device option are switched on. To check this, go to settings and privacy> Local Files> toggle Show audio files from this device on. You can read more about it in this article.

On another note, would you mind sending us the make/model and OS of the affected device, along with the Spotify version you're running there? Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

Remember that files or downloads from illegal sources are not permitted. If your files have not been obtained from an official source, this is most likely why they are not playing. Spotify supports .mp3, .mp4, and .m4p files. It doesn’t support .mp4 files that contain video, or the iTunes lossless format (M4A).

Keep us in the loop!

I can see those files in the Local files folder. I can even play them, but alone from the other files. But when I add them to the playlist and start playing the playlist Spotify just skips them

Thanks for the reply @nuttines666!

Could you try reinstalling the app to check if it makes any difference? Once the app is reinstalled, you'll need to toggle on Show audio files from this device again.

Keep in mind that the local files have to be manually imported to your device as well in order to be played by Spotify.

Should the issue persist, it would be great if you could let us know what device and operating system you're using. Your current Spotify version would also be helpful.

If possible, feel free to include a photo or video showing how things look from your end when you're trying to play the playlist.

Let us know how you get on.

Re-installing didn't help. But what helped (at least for now) is changing the metadata and the name of the files.

For example "Track-Does-Not-Exist-On-Spotify" became "7r4ck-D0es-N0t-Ex1st-0n-Zp0tify".

Now I can play it in my Spotify playlist.

But this really pisses me off. Do I have to do that all the time?

If Spotify doesn't have some tacks in their library, but I do, why can't I use those tracks, if I'm actually allowed to use my local files? If Spotify has some copyright issue, why should I suffer? It's a Spotify problem, not mine.
