Who is following me?

Solved!

Who is following me?

In my Spotify Community profile I see this:

GrampaWildWilly_0-1735322248807.png

How do I find out who that one Follower is?  Now, I may not have things straight in my mind.  Is this a person who is following my playlist?  Or is this someone who is following me so that whenever I post in the community, that follower gets a notification?  It seems to me like those would be two separate kinds of Follows.  I know it's possible to follow somebody's playlist.  But I don't know if it's possible to follow somebody's activity in the community.

I have seen advice on here that says if I want to find out who is following my playlists (if anybody), I'm supposed to click in the Your Library area & things will be listed there.  I think there's been changes to the user interface since that advice was posted a number of years ago.  That advice does not appear to be applicable to version 1.2.53.438.g246d60c9 on Windows 11 Pro today at the end of December 2024.  I sure would like to hear from somebody who knows an answer to these questions.

Hey @GrampaWildWilly,

Thanks for your response and the additional info.

The reason things look different on your end is because you don't have any profile followers and you've scrolled down to the Public Playlists section of your profile page (playlist followers can't be viewed as explained previously). We've now followed your Spotify profile using our Community account so things should look like this:

Note that the "1 Follower"-line underneath your display name/username is now clickable and leads you here:

Clicking on our Community profile leads you to its profile page where you can again see the difference in account and playlist followers:

Regarding the Following section not updating after you've followed @OscarDC, note that it sometimes takes a while for it reflect any changes, so if you're still following them and it's not showing up, try logging out and back in a couple of times to force a re-sync of your account data.

We're here if you have any other questions.

Hey @GrampaWildWilly,

Thanks for reaching out.

The user that currently follows you on the Spotify Community gets notified when you start a new thread or post in an existing one, but it's currently not possible to see who that user is. It's also not possible to see who follows your playlists on Spotify, however, there's an idea on the same topic here so feel free to vote for it and subscribe in order to receive updates.

To follow someone on Spotify, you need to open their profile and click on Follow. If they've opted to share their activity, you should be able to see what they're listening to in the Friend Activity tab in your desktop app.

To see who's following you on Spotify, open your profile and click on Followers below your display name/username. For more info on privacy and things you can share on your profile, check out these two articles:

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for responding.  OK.  I understand that I can't see who is following my community profile.  I did go to that thread & added my vote.  The vote count is up over 25,000 at the moment & it's a pretty old thread.  That makes me extremely pessimistic it will be fixed.

I went into the desktop app & clicked on my profile.  Scrolled to the bottom.  You can see here that it says I have 2 people following my playlist.

#01.png

But when I click where it says "2 Followers" it just goes back to showing the usual interface, which is to say it just shows my playlist again.  It doesn't list the 2 followers.

When I do the same thing in the web player, I get the exact same results.

When I go into my profile on Spotify -- not the community profile but my base Spotify profile -- there's nothing about followers.  In fact, it's a bit difficult to get to the "home" page of Spotify.  https://spotify.com opens the web player.  When I click on my avatar within the web player, there is an option to go to my account.  That doesn't show anything about followers.  That page actually has a banner that's in German.  I don't know why that is.  I don't even speak German.

So despite my best efforts, I'm still not getting to anywhere that allows me to view the 2 individuals who are following my playlist.  Perhaps more detailed instructions from you -- screenshots would seem to be in order -- would get us closer to a resolution here.

Since I have your attention & you are a moderator, I need to draw your attention to this:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/Playback-issues-related-to-the-next-song-in-the-queu...

You need to put that in the box that appears at the top of every page of that thread.

Hi there @GrampaWildWilly,

Thanks for the reply!

As @MihailY mentioned, it's not possible to see who's following your playlist, only the number of followers it has, but you should be able to check who's following your Spotify profile by checking the steps mentioned in the previous post. If you don't see anything related to followers or profiles you're following when you open your profile, then that means that there aren't any.

And thanks for letting us know about your comment in the other thread, we've made sure to highlight it in the status update for easier access and in order for other users to see it.

Cheers!

OK.  Here's how I am trying to follow the advice @MihailY gave me above.  I start on a page on Spotify.

#01.png

I click on the Profile button at the top of the page.  It drops down the little menu.  I click the Account selection.

#02.png

That takes me to the page you can see above.  There is no mention of followers on that page.  But I thought the Edit Profile link might contain something useful.

#03.png

There is nothing on that page that mentions followers.  I'm not showing the full page.  There's about another screenload below what you can see in that image.  But it's stuff I don't really want to post in the open.

So I ask again.  Please provide me with screenshots of what I am supposed to do to get into my profile where followers might be mentioned with an associated clickable link.

Hey @GrampaWildWilly,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the clarification.

The process that @MihailY mentioned previously about checking your followers needs to be done from your Profile page, and not from the Account page. If you're using the desktop version of the app or the Web Player, you need to click your profile picture (located at the top bar) and select the option Profile as seen on the image below.

There, you will be able to see your Profile page. Below your username, you should see the number of people following your account. In case you want to see the complete list of followers, just click on the number of followers to display it in full.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for that, @OscarDC.  But if you look upthread, I posted an image showing precisely what you are showing.  There's something different between the results you get in your profile & the results I get.  When I click on the number of followers, it just displays my playlist over again.  For some reason, what it displays for me just doesn't work the same as it does for you.  Your result shows this:

17 Public Playlists - 34 Followers - 279 Following

Your "34 Followers" is a clickable link.  In contrast, mine just shows this:

Wild Willy's Playlist

Your information is all on 1 line.  Mine is on 2 lines.  For me, the "2 Followers" link is part of the single icon showing my playlist image & the name of the playlist.  It's all one link.  I can't click the "2 Followers" link separately from the whole icon.  Clicking there just dumps me back into my playlist.  I don't know if this is a bug or maybe there's a setting I need to change.

Another difference is that my image for my playlist, the name of the playlist, & the "2 Followers" indication are all within the single image.  The caption at the bottom is on top of the image.  Your image shows something different.  Your playlist image is to the left, there is something you apparently obscured with whiteout in a more or less rectangular blob to the right, & the clickable links for the followers/following are underneath the rectangular blob.  My display is just not laid out like yours.

This is all quite baffling.  It's just not working the same for me as it does for you.

On a hunch, I decided maybe if I were following somebody, that would show up like it does in your image, with followers & following side by side, with each being clickable.  Nope.

I'm just not getting anywhere with this.

Hi @GrampaWildWilly,

Thanks for the replies.

You seem to be looking at different things. The steps provided by @OscarDC relate to your Profile Page. There, you will see the exact number of followers you have and can click on that to see who is following you. However you're looking at a playlist and there you will only see the number of followers without it being clickable. As previously stated, it's not possible at the moment to see who is following a playlist. The discrepancies you described about how it looks are also because of the different arrangements on both the Profile page and a specific playlist.

Hope this clears things up.

Following the instructions both @MihailY & @OscarDC gave me, I open the Spotify desktop app.  I'm on Windows 11 Pro, if that matters.  It looks like this:

#01.png

I click on my avatar in the upper right corner of this window, as the guys instructed me to do.

#02.png

That gives me the menu you see in that image.  I click on the Profile entry in that menu, as the guys instructed me to do.  That gives me this:

#03.png

That's the top of the response I get.  It says "Profile" right there at the top to the right of my avatar image, above my user name.  Here I've scrolled it down.

#04.png

I am not seeing anything that looks like what @OscarDC shows above.  As far as I know, this is my Profile.  Isn't it my Profile?  If I have a Profile somewhere else, do please show me how to access it.

I probably should have included this above.  Oh well.  Better late than never.

This is kind of funny.  The problem seems to have been that nobody loved me.   But now that you HAVE shown me some love, indeed yes, I do see a count of people following me & I did get into that profile & things do look just like you describe.  I think I've got it straight now.  There are 3 things that can be followed:

. My Spotify profile

. My Spotify playlist(s)

. My Spotify Community profile

Of these 3. only the first one has a way for me to discover who has shown me enough love to bother following me.  For the other 2, people remain anonymous.  It does seem a bit asymmetrical, don't you think?  There is already that other moldy oldie thread that's over TEN YEARS old (where I did vote) for listing who is following your playlist.  Maybe this discussion could stand as the feature request to add the ability to list who is following your Community profile.  That was, after all, my original question.  However, the digressions were educational.

Anyway, thank you all for your patience.

Oh look.  Now I'm a Gig Goer . . . whatever that is.  How excited should I get?

I did a Google search for "Gig Goer" & discovered that it's supposed to mean that I have attended a concert by some artist.  I have attended concerts by several of the artists in my playlist but none recently.  I was a "Music Lover" yesterday.  Now I'm a "Gig Goer."  I did not attend a concert within the past day.  Oh well.  It's not actually a problem.  I was just curious.  Cyberspace is simply packed full of such sources of hilarity.

Hey @GrampaWildWilly,

We're happy to hear that everything is sorted now.

Regarding your Community rank, it changes based on your activity in the forum like posting and giving/receiving likes. You can find more info about it here.

If you’re looking to grow your followership or just share and discuss the music you love, you can consider posting in our Chat boards.

Have a happy New Year!

Aha!  Thanks for that link.  So it was not that I attended a concert but that I attended this Community.  Good to know.
