My Question or Issue

Wondery podcasts have stopped playing on my iPhone. They still play on my iPad and on another iPhone 13 in our house. I was listening to British Scandal and Where There’s a Will There’s a Wake. Both podcasts have suddenly stopped playing on my phone. I tried downloading episodes but they still won’t play. I cleared the cache, disabled VPN and reinstalled Spotify. Nothing works. It only seems to be Wondery podcasts that won’t play. If Spotify is no longer supporting Wondery then I can’t understand why the podcasts will play on an iPad and another iPhone. Not sure what else I can do!

Hi @26218970

Welcome to the Community! Thanks for reaching out.

We see you've done some troubleshooting yourself already, really helps us narrow down the possibilities!

We checked the podcasts you mentioned and were unable to replicate your issue, nor are there other users informing us of the same. You mentioned that this only happens on one of your iPhones. Are the other devices connected to the same network, and does this happen when on mobile, WiFi or both? Could you check to see if accessing from another network will help.

Also if the same keeps occurring, please send us a screenshot of how things look on your end. You can attach it to your post here in the forum.

Hope this helps.

Hi Martin

thanks for your response. I have tried different networks and different wifi but the problem remains. I’ve downloaded episodes but they won’t play either. It only happens with Wondery podcasts. Others play fine.

I’m attaching a screenshot of what happens but it doesn’t show much. When it is supposed to be playing, a line just buffers across the bar showing time remaining, so it looks like it’s playing but there is no sound.

Any ideas?

Hey there @26218970,

Thanks for the reply!

Just to make sure we cover all bases, could you ask a friend or a family member to log in to their own Spotify account on the device you're experiencing issues with? It would be great if they could try playing the podcasts, to check if they notice the same behavior. This may help us determine if what you're experiencing might be related to your account.

Keep us posted on how it goes!

Hi Marie

Thanks for your help. I have found that a VPN was constantly switching on in the background. I didn’t know it was on my phone. When I found it I switched it off but it kept switching back on. I found the original setting for it and have set that to manual so it can’t turn itself on anymore. Everything works on Spotify now. Sorry about that. I knew it had to be something with my phone but the VPN hadn’t don’t this before. I think the setting for the VPN had changed somehow - maybe with a phone update. Anyway, all sorted and maybe this will help another user.
