Can't listen on Alexa and another device with the Family Plan

Our family is frustrated that when we are listening on Alexa the other can't listen on our phone or laptop.

Hey @NatalieAllen

If all members use the same login information in their devices, your music will cutoff like it has been happening to you.

Each family member has to have a separate username and password, so the first step is to create new accounts for each new member (if they haven't already). In this case, you should make an account for your Echo too.

I suggest creating it with an email address (not the one used for Facebook, if possible), since they'll be able to get a Spotify username / password. Using Facebook will not let you do that.

Each member will now have a Free account, so the next step is for them to join your Family plan through your account (You're the one who pays, so you'll be the Family Admin).

Send the invites to the emails they used to create their accounts.

Let them accept the invite logged in with their own username in the app and in the website. They should make sure to type the address exactly as the Admin did when he created the Family Plan, and also be sure all Family members use the same Internet connection (Home network) regularly.

Each will be able to listen to music at the same time, and will have separate libraries, playlists and friends. If you create, and accept the invite for the Echo account, use that login information in the device, and it should not interfiere with other family members.

Hope it helps. 🙂

Can we automatically share playlists across all family accounts?

I understand the need to create multiple accounts as a workaround to using the single account. However is it possible to automatically share playlists for all family accounts so they function in practice like a single account?

Over 5x properties I have a 5x accounts set up and it works reasonably well, however I have to manually share each playlist 5x times to sync up the 5x accounts. If it could automate sharing of playlists in family accounts this would be an acceptable workaround.

Hey @stellardrive

That's a nice idea. You should post it in the Idea Submissions forum and it may be considered for future versions of the app.

Just be sure to check out if the idea is already there. If it's not, submit it after reading the idea submission guidelines. 🙂
