Why on earth can't I move house without having to delete my spotify account and create a new one???? This seems antiquated for modern software!!

Sounds like you're trying to update the address for your Family plan. Don't worry - all you need to do is log in on your Family page here. Just note that all family members will then need to verify that they live with you by updating their current address on their own Family pages as well. More info can be found in this article.
