Family plan and multiple devices

I use Spotify with Amazon Echos. I want to my son to be able to play music on his Echo, while I play music on my Echo. They both use the same Amazon account, and hence the same Spotify account.

I take it that upgrading to Family isn't going to help me here?  That I'll still need to use separate (linked) Spotify accounts if I want to stream to more than one device?
Amazon allows up to six streams with their family account, regardless of who's logged in. That seems a much more sensible approach, so I'll move to that unless Spotify has changed their rules recently.
