How can I filter or disable podcasts on kids accounts?

How can I filter or disable podcasts on kids accounts?

I have turned of explicit content on the kids accounts on my family plan. However, this apparently doesn't work for podcasts. I don't want them listening to filth and erotica. How do I filter those out or turn off podcasts for those accounts?

Hi there @ZeWolf77,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We'd like to shed some light to this.

At the moment it's not possible to filter podcasts as explicit . However, the feedback on the matter has been forwarded to the right team.

On another note, have you heard about Spotify kids? If not, you can check it out here.

We hope that the information above was helpful.

Let us know if we can help you with anything else 🙂

Have a great Friday and a wonderful start of your weekend!

Thank you for the reply. My kids are teens, so I didn’t look into the kids accounts. At the same time, there’s some pretty graphic stuff in the podcasts.

I thought I’d ask. Thanks for the reply.

I have this issue too. Got a 12 year old boy finding some questionable content too easily. I want to disable all podcasts and all videos, only music please.

Hey there @Carlosj44,

Thanks for the post.

We understand your concern, but currently there is no way to hide podcasts on Spotify.

If you feel like the content on the Spotify app is not suitable for your children you might consider creating Spotify Kids accounts for them. The Kids app features only content specially curated for young listeners. More info here.

Hope this info helps.

Are you new to the Community? Take a moment to introduce yourself!

I'm pretty sure my 13 year old does not want to listen to singalongs but at the same time, anyone under the age of 18 should NOT be exposed to pornography. You do realise there's a middle-ground right? There exists age ratings for other media such as movies, tv shows and games - why is this missing for music and podcasts - absolutely ridiculous!

Spotify be like "Oh, you don't want to listen to nursery rhymes? Here's a **bleep** podcast instead then".

Hi there folks,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback here in the Community.

There's actually an idea - [All Platforms][Podcasts] Option to disable or hide podcasts entirely. You can leave a +VOTE to show your support to the idea and Subscribe to it so that you don't miss any updates about this.

Let us know if we can help you with anything else in the meantime.

Have a great continued weekend 🙂

I find it impossible to believe that it would be hard for the software to be updated to filter explicit podcasts the same way explicit music is filtered.  There is no reasonable excuse for this missing functionality in the product.  I suspect it would have revenue impact, or this function would have been implemented long ago.

Yeah this is an actual deal breaker for me. I've logged into my 8 year old daughters spotify account and on the dashboard are podcasts for "Serial Killers" and the "Joe Rogan Experience". Voting, requests, tickets to right teams... these are not solutions. They are ideas. I need a solution today.

I'll check back here in 6 months and see if this has actually been solved.

Any updates here? Long term users are cancelling due to this. We need a solution!

I cancelled my account a couple days ago because of this filth. How sad that spotify is normalizing kids being exposed to pornography. Must help their bottom line I guess…

I was disappointed with the "solution" here. I'm canceling our family account today after discovering the podcasts my 13 year old daughter found.

this is not a solution.

I am brand new to spotify - so correct me if I am wrong. But as a work around - can you allow your children to create their playlists under your account and then share those playlist with them (via spotify kids)?

It s been a while now that this issue about not being able to block podcasts for younger users was raised.

Is there any progress on a functionality that would answer all these users needs?

Thank you for your feedback

Hi, I have the same problem. This issue is not solved at all. Can anyone provide an update?

There are well-known competitors who do not allow videos on their music apps. At the moment I have more or less blocked usage for my kids, so I am actually am paying a family abo for nothing. Even though I liked spotify, I will cancel my plan by end of this month if there is no solution in place.

Same here. No solution whatsover. I have an 8 year old who loves music - of course including current charts and some songs she heard from her parents. Spotify Kids: Unavailable in Austria -> no solution. I disabled explicit contents within the mobile app and as a family admin in the backend. First podcast suggestion was some true crime and murderer content. Are the spotify guys totally crazy? Why the **bleep** pay for a service who is not addressing such an issue?

TBH this is disgusting. Social media and media streaming companies seem unable or unwilling to adopt any sense of social responsibility. It's time for legislation, they should be fined for every breach whereby a minor is exposed to content unsuitable for their age. It's the only way to force them to change and take responsibility for the content they host.

Spotify in the short term, at the very least, allow us to disable podcast for accounts just as we can turn off explicit music content.
