Premium family account - listen on a device (iphone)

Solved!

Premium family account - listen on a device (iphone)

I have just discovered I can listen to audiobooks and started to listen to a book on my Spotify app on my PC.

I have a family premium account.

If I look on my phone I can see the audiobook listed in my library but there is a lock symbol which stops me listening to it on my iphone.

Device

Iphone 12

iOS 15.5.1

Any ideas ?

Hey @savsontheshore,

Thanks for the cooperation!

It's worth giving a clean reinstall of the app on your phone a shot. You mentioned you get a prompt asking if you want to transfer the audio to the phone - if you do that, does the playback continue or is then when you see the padlock symbol?

Another thing you can try is removing all third-party apps from here by clicking on REMOVE ACCESS and try playing the audiobook afterwards before relinking the apps to your account again.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank You @Dessi the complete reinstall appears to have fixed the issue. I was hesitant to do that but it worked and remembered by Id, settings etc.

Sorry ios 17.5.1

Hey @savsontheshore,

Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please go into the Spotify iOS app > Settings > Log out and then log back in? 🙂

Make sure to log into the same account as on desktop, since only plan managers (the creator of a Duo/Family plan) can access Audiobooks included in Premium.

Let me know how it goes!

Note: I'm not a Spotify employee.

I logged out on my phone. Logged back in and used the email sent to validate. Both PC and mobile are the same accounts.

Unfortunately I still have the paddlock symbol on my audiobook on my mobile. Interestingly when listening on my pc and then open Spotify on my mobile it recognises this and asks if I want to transfer the audio to my mobile but still has the paddlock symbol and locked.

If I listen to anything else I can transfer from phone to PC and back. It only appears to be audiobooks I can't listen on my phone.

Hey @savsontheshore,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

Even if the issue seems to be happening with audiobooks only, would you mind confirming if you've performed the troubleshooting processes previously mentioned by @Dessi on your phone?

Also, could you check if this happens with all audiobooks you tried or just with a specific one?

Lastly, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

My Question or Issue

I can not play Audiobooks from my iPhone, only from my computer. If I want to listen on my iPhone the computer has to be on and playing the track. The only reason why I joined the Family Premium was to be able to listen from the iPhone

Any ideas?

Hi BlancaSala123,

are the audiobooks in Spotify's Catalogue - can you search for them on your iPhone Spotify App when your computer isn't on (as in you can at least see them?).

I have a Premium Individual account which runs successfully on my iPhone and iPad. I’ve just installed Spotify on an old iPhone for use on an upcoming hospital stay when I don’t want to take either main device with me. The free audiobook allowance isn’t active on this old phone, even though Settings clearly shows it’s a Premium account. All my downloaded Books show as locked even tho I can access them on the other devices. Any advice please?
