Premium family & gift cards

I was planning om up grading my audible single premium to family.  Shutting down my audible account and using family Spotify so my kids can listen to audiobooks. For the top up beyond the free hours (which I will use) they are being gifted audible vouchers for Christmas. Turns out you can’t use vouchers in Spotify family accounts? If this is true I won’t be upgrading, but I can’t figure out why this would be the case. Can anyone confirm (since it seems impossible to contact Spotify) or suggest a way we can use our vouchers? Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out.

 

Unfortunately, you can’t apply a gift card on discounted plans like Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers. Please also keep in mind that only the plan manager of a Duo/Family plan can access Audiobooks that are included in Premium.

Workaround which worked for me as of December 2024.

  • I was on a Premium Family plan.
  • I downgraded to Premium Individual (but the Family plan was still valid until the next billing date).
  • I successfully loaded £50 worth of gift cards (1x£30 and 2x£10).
  • My Spotify account now indicated that my subscription would downgrade to Premium Individual in 6 months. However, this was incorrect and was glitching.
  • On the next billing date (2 weeks after redeeming the gift cards), all my family members received emails saying the Family plan had ended.
  • At this point, I switched back to the Family plan on Spotify Account Manager. The system updated my new next billing date to reflect the value of the gift cards—in my case, about 2.5 months, which is how long £50 covers a Family plan.
