Ads on premium student subscription

I have a Premium Student subscription and my payments go through every month, yet I still get the occasional ad around the beginning of a podcast for example.

Why is that? I know these aren't the podcast's paid sponsorships.

Some podcasts may include occasional advertising or sponsored messages, which are run by the podcasters themselves, even for Premium users. The thing is, while Premium offers an ad-free music listening experience, that doesn't necessarily carry over to podcasts as well.

This is not true! I live in Australia and listened to a podcast made in America, and after the podcast received an ad that was targeted by an Australian business, there is no way this could’ve been an integrated segment by the podcast.

I had a similar experience! I’m in Australia and listened to a podcast produced in the U.S. After finishing the episode, I got an ad from an Australian business. There’s no way this was an integrated segment by the podcast itself
