My Question or Issue
I can't seem to download my local files from my laptop onto my phone. I've tried putting them on the same network and am able to add my local files onto the laptop. However, when I go to the Local Files settings on my iPhone, it only wants to sync with my apple music and not my laptop. I've tried redownloading the app to see if that would help and that just made it worse. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the local files on my phone?
Hey there @JustJoanna13,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
First of all, head to your iPhone's settings Privacy > Local Network and make sure Spotify is allowed to access local network. Open the Spotify app afterwards, go to Settings > Local Files and switch on Enable sync from desktop (feel free to adjust your other preferences as well while you're at it), then reboot your phone. Download the playlist once your phone boots back up.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
Cheers!
My "Enable sync from desktop" setting has entirely disappeared. The only option in the Local Files section now is "Show audio files from this device". wth is this company?
what this guy said^^ this change seems to suggest that you can add them from your files app from your phone but there’s no clear way on how to
Hey folks,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.
We apologize for the confusion about this. Recently, the Local files importing process has changed to a more simplified version of it on Android and iOS. It is called "Local files discovery" and it can import the audio files stored on your device so you can play them in your app.
You can check all the information and how to do it in this article.
Hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I think I ran into this issue in the past. What worked for me was putting the local files in a private playlist on my computer and liking the playlist. You might also try using the files app on your iPhone (if you've linked it with your google drive/dropbox that you've got those files stored) and looking for "local files" under the downloaded section of Spotify on your phone.
