My Question or Issue

I have a playlist I periodically add tracks to, and it ends up with multiple copies of songs sometimes. When I try to delete one of the copies, it deletes all copies of the track in the playlist, not just the one copy I intended to delete. I want to be able to remove copies without losing the original track I want to keep in the playlist.

Hey there Ben A, to remove a duplicate track from a playlist without deleting all instances of that track in the playlist, you can try the following steps:

  1. Open the playlist and locate the duplicate track that you want to remove.

  2. Swipe left on the track to reveal the options menu.

  3. Tap on "Remove from this Playlist". This will remove the selected track from the playlist, but not from your Spotify library.

  4. If you accidentally remove all instances of the track, don't worry. Just go to your Spotify library and locate the track. From there, you can add it back to the playlist as many times as you like.

Alternatively, you can use the desktop app to remove duplicates from a playlist. Here are the steps:

  1. Open the playlist in the desktop app.

  2. Click on the "View" menu at the top of the screen.

  3. Select "Show Duplicate Tracks". This will show all instances of duplicate tracks in the playlist.

  4. Click on the duplicate track you want to remove.

  5. Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. This will remove the selected duplicate track from the playlist.

  6. Repeat the process for all other duplicate tracks in the playlist.

  7. When you're finished, click on "View" again and select "Hide Duplicate Tracks" to hide the duplicate tracks and return to the normal view of the playlist.

Hope to of helped,

My Question or Issue

This happens across the ecosystem including the developer API.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a new playlist

2. Add any track to it

3. Add that same track again

4. Click "add anyway" when prompted about duplicates

5. Click The 3 dots action menu

6. Click Remove from this playlist

7. See Both instances are removed

Expected result:

Only the track at the selected position should be removed, other instances of the track should remain.

Actual Result:

All instances of the duplicated track are removed.

This isn't user friendly/intuitive since the user only clicked on 1 track, the duplicate may be off-screen and not obvious that both are removed.

This looks to be an API deficiency since there's no way to specify position in the API docs and instead only a track URI.
