Did Spotify seriously just remove another feature?! (Playlist folders in grid view)

Did Spotify seriously just remove another feature?! (Playlist folders in grid view)

I think I'm at my limit with Spotify here and seriously considering cancelling my premium in favour of another company. Previously I had all of my playlists and Playlist folders inside one Playlist folder. This is so I could click on this and easily vies all my playlists in grid view. I have a log of playlists so having them organised into folders in grid view was the only way I could reasonably find what I was looking for. In the latest update, there is now a build in way to view playlists in grid view (which is good) , however, it just shows all the playlists in one giant lump completely ignoring all of the Playlist folders. Worse however is that when I click on my main Playlist folder, it also ignores the subfolders in this vies now. In other words there is no way to view my playlists organised into folders in grid view now. This makes it next to impossible to find the playlists im looking for now since they're all lumped together into one mess.

Why is Spotify so intent on removing features that are useful?! Are they trying to drive people to competitors? Please bring this feature back!

Hey there @fourganders,

Thank you for your post here in the Community. We're happy to take a closer look into this.

Can you let us know which device/devices this occurs on?

It would also be great if you can let us know which version of the app you have?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I have a similar remark: I can still see my playlist folders on the left column of the screen, but not on the main one anymore - just shows the bunch of underlying playlists. Also statistics have disappeared (number of folders, number of playlists).  See attachment.

Performance also seems to have decreased (creating new folders, renaming them, dragging & dropping them - there's always some latency).

Hi there @podevyns,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

Can you let us know exactly what you mean with ''not in the main one anymore''? We'd also like to know if the same happens in any other device.

Regarding the performance, having a large number of folders and playlists can have an impact on the app's performance while interacting or navigating through them.

We'll be looking out for your reply.

See the screenshot I attached to my comment: on the central part of the screen, the playlist folders (one per artist) are not displayed anymore, only the main folder ('platenkast') and the underlying playlists. Also, there are no statistics anymore (number of folders, number of playlists).
This is only the case on my laptop, not on my iPhone.

Hey @podevyns,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you also share a screenshot of how the app get's displayed on your phone? Also, does the same issue appear on our web player? Please keep in mind that if you have a large number of playlists (over 1,000) there may be some latency and statistics issues, especially if they are organized in a complex system of folders and subfolders. Could you share the approximate number of playlists in your collection?

In any case, we recommend to clean reinstall Spotify on the device where this occurs. This step lets you start afresh with the latest app version by removing any corrupted files from previous installations.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.

See attached iphone view: playlist folders displayed, unlike in the desktop version (the latter also being the case in the web player). Have tried the clean reinstall, didn't work. And indeed, I have 2000+ playlist folders, but performance was never an issue with the previous version of spotify.

Hey @podevyns

Thanks for your reply.

This is currently an expected behavior. We’re always looking for new ways to improve our users' experience, and we will continue to innovate the product experience.

You can also head here to find more information about the New Desktop Experience and share your feedback in the thread.

If anything else comes up, we're always a message away.

Have a good one.

So that’s it… end of discussion because it’s expected behavior?

Spotify is a paid subscription service. Because you rely on user payments to keep running… what matters is what the customers want, NOT what the team wants.

Strange 'expected behaviour' to not show something a user created by means of an available feature. But ok.

Spotify, this is a big deal. You had sensible functionality and removed it because.....?

I feel the same. Why have folders if they're all just going to spill out on the main window? ('the main one' as described earlier - this needs an official name btw). This is a terrible way to navigate.
