My Question or Issue

Hello, I’ve been usig spotify for more than 6 years and I have created at least 20-30 playlists during this time. I don’t use the “like” button or the “library” at all. Although I’ve been listening to my playlists all the time, the weekly discovery lists that Spotify makes for me has nothing to do with my music taste. Is there a way for me to solve this? ( for example i like to listen to a lot of rock/pop music but spotify keep suggesting me Jazz and instrumental music)

Hey @oykubeloz,

Thanks for your reply.

We suggest you to keep up listening the music you like and "teach" the app using the Like and Don't play this features. Liking just a song doesn’t automatically like the album or artist it comes from. To get more relevant suggestions dependent on artist or albums, we suggest to actively like them as well to better shape up Your Library. As this is a gradual process, it'd really need some time for the algorithm to adjust itself.  Also make sure you're not using the Private listening feature without reason, as anything you listen to in a Private Session may not influence your music recommendations, e.g. Discover Weekly.

It's also worthwhile restarting the app twice in a row. This may sound odd but it's how the app does a refresh between the app and your account. If things don't improve with time, another approach could be to create a new account and start fresh, thus developing your music preferences from scratch, but this time as you like them to be. The public playlists you've created on your old account could still be followed with the new one to save you time and effort.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Hey @oykubeloz,

Thanks for the post.

The way that the recommendation algorithm works is it takes into account the songs and artists you like with the heart button. A good way to start is to follow a few artists you tend to listen to more often. This way you should get more recommendations for songs from them or for similar songs, atleast in the same genre.

Liking a few songs and albums can also make a difference.

In the Discover Weekly and Release Radar you should see a Hide song option. You can click that on songs that you don't enjoy and Spotify will recommend fewer of those in the future.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have more questions.

Hello, thank you so much for this information. After I read your comment, I looked at my likes list and there were songs I think I added without realizing it. I deleted those songs and added hundreds of songs that I enjoy listening to. Now, a month later, the discovery list is again! Full of jazz music. There is not even one song that is not jazz on my list. I really do not understand why this is happening. Apparently, Spotify wants me to listen to jazz music:)).Will you please help me? Because I really enjoy discovering new music, since I am a musician, and I used to use Spotify for that. Now it is not working and I have to search other lists for hours to discover new songs, whereas my friends say they are very satisfied with their discovery playlists. Thank you! I hope you are having a nice day.
