Remove the Autoplay Feature

Remove the Autoplay Feature

I can’t tell you how many times as of late I have closed my Spotify listening to one thing. Only to open it and have the app choose something else for me to listen to. Why the **bleep** is that a thing, nobody asked for their music to change all on its own. Make this an opt-in feature or get rid of it! This is completely different than automatically playing something similar after you complete an album. I do not want these two features to be related. The other feature is fine, but changing the music without even finishing a playlist is the worse feature I have ever seen. I could totally be enjoying an album and expect to continue listening to it when I get back in my car or open the app, but no! It starts playing something else, stop the **bleep**!

Hey there @PleaseMakeThisBetter

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community. We moved your post from the Ideas board to the relevant Help board, where it fits better.

Could you let us know if this happens when you switch devices or it also happens when you're listening to the whole album on the same device?

On another note, we suggest that you check the queue first to see if there are other songs there ready to play. If so, you can remove them by tapping on Clear queue or remove them one by one.

If this doesn't do the trick, we recommend that you follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account page and scroll all the way to the bottom > Security and privacy.
  2. Select Sign out everywhere.
  3. Request a password reset by visiting this article.

Let us know how it goes.

Hey Eni, this happens using the same device listening to an album or a playlist. I have not queued a different song, but it changes to something similar to my suggested songs.

Hey @PleaseMakeThisBetter,

Thanks for the reply!
When you say that this happens in the middle of playlists it makes me think that the Smart Shuffle setting might be toggled on -
It should look like the Shuffle icon with a star in the top left corner:

If the issue is present without this being on, could you let us know with a few more details what the exact current app behaviour is? We'd like to take a further look at what's going on 🙂
Cheers!

Hey Vasil,

The Smart Shuffle feature was not turned on. It happens occasionally and will randomly play something different than what I have selected.

Hey @PleaseMakeThisBetter,

Thanks for your reply.

Apologies for the late response. We'd suggest checking your Account Overview page> Manage Apps. If you notice any suspicious apps, you can remove them with the REMOVE ACCESS button. You can easily reconnect the apps that you use whenever you want.

If this should persist afterwards, it'd be really helpful if you sent us the following, so we can continue investigating:

  • As mentioned by @Vasil, the exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device.
  • The exact make/model and OS of the device(s) in which you noticed this behavior.
  • Just to confirm, have you tried signing out everywhere as mentioned by @Eni?
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • Send us a video recording of this behavior. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can watch it.

Remember to send us all these items, that way we'll have a better picture of the behavior you kindly described to us.

Keep us in the loop!
