Hey everybody!
I've been having two correlated issues with Spotify for a couple of months regarding adding new songs to an existing playlist. No matter if I drag and drop the song to a playlist or navigate through the "add to playlist" button, a message with "already added - this is already in your XXX playlist" will appear. In general, I do enjoy this functionality, but it's also happening with songs that, for a fact, are not yet in the playlist I want to add them to. This behavior is weird especially because the same song(s) can be added without the message popping up as soon as I try the same thing for a second or third time. This leaves me questioning every time if the song really is in my playlist already or if it's the ongoing issue where the song is actually not yet in my playlist.
The second (and in my opinion correlated issue) is that the screen/ scrolling position shifts itself approximately 20 songs downwards after the above stated "already added" message shows up - no matter if the message shows up correctly or "incorrectly". This is a rather small issue but gets a little annoying when adding a bunch of songs to playlists and the message pops up incorrectly almost every time and shifts the whole playlist downwards.
I already reinstalled Spotify on every system that I use it on, cleared the cache and logged out and in again. I hope that you guys can help me, I really appreciate the help in advance!

Hey @Petruschkini,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
Can you let us know if you're getting the "song already in playlist" message on all your devices, and whether it's only for specific songs and playlists?
Also, could you try logging in with a different account such as a free account and check if you get the same behaviour with the song and the scrolling issue.
Cheers.
Hey @Alex!
Thank you for your quick response, I appreciate it! 🙂
I can't detect a pattern with this message. I've been listening to "New Music Friday" Playlists of different countries for approximately 30 minutes now and had the issue three times on my Mac (on "I need you" by Kios, "Shadows" by Frank Walker, and "Me, Myself & Adderall" by Lost Kings). I wasn't able to reproduce the issue neither on my iPhone nor on my iPad, although the issue also occurred on these devices in the past. I usually select songs from these playlists and put them into one of my 18 "go-to" playlists. I can't assert that this issue occurs with every single of those 18 playlists, but I'm pretty sure that it occurred with most of them at some point in the past.
I want to add two things that caught my eye and which may help with the investigation of the issue: with two of the three songs, another message came up stating that Spotify can't reproduce the song right now and that I can add it manually from my files. Another thing is that one of the playlists, the one in which I collect all new songs from various playlists and sort them in/out still counts two to four songs even when the playlist is empty.
The scrolling issue persists even on other accounts (I tried several ones, free and premium, just to be sure).
Thank you in advance again and have a nice day!
Peter
Hi there @Petruschkini,
Thanks for keeping in touch and for all that info.
Based on those behaviors, the next thing you can try is clearing your hosts file by following the steps in this article. Even though its title is for a different topic, you'll find the steps to follow after scrolling down a bit.
If there aren't any entries to clear, could you try adding the songs using the web player and let us know how if the same happens there?
Keep us posted.
Dear @CarlosE
Thanks a lot for your commitment concerning my issue, as I already said I appreciate it!
I followed the steps for clearing the host file but unfortunately did not have any entries associated with Spotify.
I also tried adding songs with the web player in Chrome and Opera GX (both were updated before, AdBlocker, VPN and everything else turned off) and I experienced something different. I was able to add various songs multiple times without getting a warning message (it only popped up sporadically). This is why I ended up having the same song four times in a single playlist without Spotify noticing me.
Have a nice day everyone! 🙂
Hey there @Petruschkini,
Thanks for the reply.
From what we've gathered so far, this issue may be associated with your account or network since it's happening across devices at different times.
Can you try to log in with a free account for some time and test this out?
Let us know how it goes.
Dear @Alex,
I hope you had a great weekend! So, I've been trying my luck for the last couple of days with a free account on multiple networks and devices:
The scrolling issue persisted on every desktop version I've logged into, but not on any mobile devices in multiple networks (WiFi and cellular data).
The "already in your playlist" issue occurred less overall for some reason but was still noticeable. I did not get any duplicate messages on my iPad but twice on my iPhone (mobile network). Furthermore, these messages appeared far more often on the desktop version. I tested it on three different WiFi networks, while two of them were public and one of them private).
I really can't make a lot of sense of this. So, as always, I appreciate any kind of new ideas or input. Frankly, I've grown more used to checking multiple times if the song is already in my playlist. I just thought/ hoped that it would be a more common issue that also other people could be having instead of just me 😄
Have a nice day! I'm looking forward to your answer!
Peter
Hi @Petruschkini,
Thank you for getting back with us.
Since the issue seems to be happening on the free account as well, please share with us the URI link of a playlist that shows the error.
Also, send us the URI of some songs that give you the "Already in your playlist" message.
Lastly, it would be helpful If you're able to record a video showing how the error pops up. Just attach the video to your next response to us by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. This way we can take a closer look at the issue.
Keep us posted!
Dear @Maria_B and @Alex
Thank you so much for your information and your expertise! For the last two to three days, I've been recording my Spotify Sessions with OBS Studio. At the beginning of the recording, there was a Spotify update to the currently and installed version "1.1.64.561.g71bd09eb-a" which fortunately seems to have resolved the "already in a playlist" issue. I sorted in about 2500 songs in the last few days and never had the message pop up again. The two attached screenshots are the only "proof" I have so far for this issue. These screenshots were recorded with the earlier version of Spotify within 2-3 seconds. The song was Envy by Afterlife (https://open.spotify.com/track/6gaiIOJF8LbjyvX7VKOLm8?si=b67636c3162343ec). The playlist I talked about (and showed the already in playlist message the most in the previous version of Spotify) is empty right now (since I moved everything to different playlists), but still shows two "invisible" songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2pUTerIoxEmnvLVZyYZIYN?si=0e49814b15f34305
At least I was able to capture the scrolling issue on video which will also be attached.
I hope I could provide at least something for you guys, wish you a wonderful day, and hope to hear from you soon!
Peter
Hi @Petruschkini,
Thank you for your reply and for providing the URI:s.
We checked the playlist out backstage and can confirm it had two corrupted tracks which we removed that might've been the cause of the issue.
We're happy to see this seems to have improved with the newer version.
If you encounters this again, please share the playlist and track again so we can check this out.
Let us know how everything works 🙂
Take care!
