Spotify code for private playlist

Spotify code for private playlist

Clicking share on a private playlist generates a link which adds someone to the playlist and expires in 7 days. If someone clicks the link and adds themself to the playlist within the 7 days, and the same link is used to create a spotify code, after the 7 days when the link has expired would scanning the old spotify code still take them to the private playlist as they’ve already been added to it? Thanks!

Hi there @KungFuPanda,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome aboard to the Community! The functionality is different depending on what you really want to do. If you just want to share your playlist with someone so they can listen to it, then copying the link from the app or using a scannable code will do just that. These links also do not expire. If you want to add someone as a collaborator, meaning that they can also add or remove songs, then you use the "Invite Collaborator" button, which copies a completely different link, which does expire.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for your message! I’m not sure then why when I click share to a private playlist it says near the top the link will expire in 7 days as shown in the picture, but if someone is already added to the private playlist, would that link work past the 7 day expiry? Thanks!

Hey @KungFuPanda,

Thanks for getting back to us!

If the user was already added to the playlist - the link should still work for them. On the other hand, the link can't be used to share the playlist with new users. They will see the "Page not available error" if they try to open it.

Hope this clear things up. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.
